Forums - Gaming - What is your tolerance?

We all know Nintendo/MS/Sony at one point or another lied about their products.

Often are the broken promises of games that's gone missing.

Depending on your tolerance, games that missed release date and got pushed back also fall in the "broken promises" category.

Among the 3 companies, who do you think is the worse and why?

All 3 of them are guilty of lying. That's what execs are hired for :)

I've been following gaming news pretty closely and I think that Sony is the worse of the 3.

Not because of the number of lies they spit out but because of how they spin their facts.

I personally do not mind if they miss a deadline or some game ended up getting scrapped. However, instead of telling the facts, Sony would spin it and make it worse.

And they even make it worse with different execs contradicting each other.

I am at the point where I don't believe anything they say anymore.

The system itself though, I still believe it can pull out of all the mess iff they somehow replace their PR people and not treating their customers like idiots.

Let's hope the PS3 doesn't drop out of my next year "wish list"

Meanwhile, the Xbox 360... the only thing holding me against is the horrible failure rate. I hate dealing with customer service. Who knows, if by some miracle next year that their failure rate is less than 5%, it might even appear on my wish list.

Lastly, the Wii seems to shrine against other 2. It totally is a party system that I wanted to have with friends coming over. Graphics is indeed important, but currently, it's got the most unique controls among the 3 consoles, which definitely outweight the lack of graphics against other 2.

Nintendo: Keep up the great work and spam us with those AAA titles.

Sony: Please shut up the PR and deliver.

Microsoft: Failure (rate) is not an option.

p.s. In case you wonder, my current favourite gaming systems are PC and DS.

For what its worth, I don't think a delayed game should be considered a lie. Perhaps "exclusive games" that end up on all consoles might count as a lie. But even then for me it would only be in a situation where they were adamant that it was exclusive. There are delayed games all the time and it is due to development issues. It sucks to wait but it means a better game in the long run.

I think most people are aware of the examples that have been flying about as of late, so I really don't want to get into that since it will only start problems. So I will just say I am far less likely to purchase from a company that lies and hides information from their customers. If you want to extrapolate that and apply it to a given console thats on you, that is a generic statement of sentiment and one I would hope all consumers share.

To Each Man, Responsibility

^I Agree. Delayed games are usually because they are being improved, Not usually because a company feels like delaying it for fun... Although I think SSBB is being delayed for a strategic purpose and that is annoying, although, it may be delayed because of development so who am I to say otherwise.

I hate it when companies spin the truth. This is the thing I get annoyed about most.

Oh and I also hate it when in an interview, they are asked a question about the state of the three consoles, then they spout of some full on crap about how the PS3 is a steak???!@#!@#$ What the heck is that all about??? I don't want to know that you think it's like a steak or Gold Class cinema's, I want to know the answer to the fricken question! Damn that annoys the hell out of me.

Last thing I hate, when asked a direct question about a particular situation, they say a whole heap of crap about the competition and never answer the question in the first place... So that's another one I hate, Bagging out the competition.

It's me...  no really, it IS me!!!

If I had to put the three console makers in order of "liarness", then it would definitely be Sony>Microsoft>Nintendo, which just happens to be the reverse of the order in which I like them.

Big surprise, huh? This is probably the most subjective thing in the long and varied history of things.

Could someone give me an example of Nintendo straight-out lying to us customers btw? I can think of them doing stuff like delaying an announced release date, denying a rumour only a few days before announcing it, or claiming to have a "strong lineup for the first half of the year" only to release Mario Tennis and a Pokemon spin-off, but I honestly don't think any of that is something we should take offence of.

Obviously we all tend to forget when our favorite company screws with us, but I'm sure we have plenty of members who have written down every mistake the big N has done for the last ten years. =P

^ there was that thing about the region free Wii, but i can't think of anything else.

In terms of dislike I'd put Sony worst, and MS/Nintendo nearly tied, with Nintendo getting a slight edge.

Each company has it's own huge weaknesses:

Sony: Horrible archatecture, stupid prices, and litterally no intelligence when it comes to producing a decent-priced product. That, and them trying to dry the market for used games in Japan is idiotic as well.

Microsoft: Well, it's Microsoft. Too money hungry as a company, but not with gaming. Stupid when it comes to fixing flaws (RROD), and seemingly too reactive with pricing, and not proactive.

Nintendo: Too money hungry, they charge too much for their products ($249.99 for a product that's only marginally better than the $69.99 Gamecube), and atleast for me, too much into the "casual revolution".

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Nintendo has not raised many alarms with me as far as screwing the customer [edit:  except for VC prices, of course]. They've been very responsive with stuff like revised Wiimote straps and giving customers free replacements, even though it was not their fault people were drunken maniacs and/or trying to to a 300-yard shotput through their TVs.

Sony, in my eyes, has put out a very solid product but their marketing department has clearly been exposed en masse to some kind of hallucinogen. Possibly by Microsoft in a very clever strategy. Then the order was given to revise the product to make it crappier (twice, because the first time wasn't crappy enough), which I am ... unhappy with. But I've already bought mine so it's all a moot point except as a spectator.

Microsoft, to me, has been the worst because their actual product is so lacking. My own console has not failed in the nearly two years I've owned it, but 20-30% failure rate is completely ridiculous. Anyone would have laughed at you for suggesting it would happen until it did happen. And then to rub salt in the wound the warranty was a joke, and their customer service is an insult. I can tell you this much: I am NOT going to be getting their next console anywhere near launch, and I bet many, many others feel the same way. At least with PS3 sticker shock and later BC gimping you know the bad news up front. Also, I've let my Xbox Live Gold membership expire and I have no plans at present to resubscribe unless it becomes free.

My advice to fanboys: Brag about stuff that's true, not about stuff that's false. Predict stuff that's likely, not stuff that's unlikely. You will be happier, and we will be happier.

Iwata... Super Smash Brothers Brawl online launch title... Wii online gaming out of the gate... Wii will have one or two Wi-Fi compatible games at launch...

Lots of broken promises and BS and don't even get me started on Sony, lol...

Anyways in my opinion for BS it goes like this:

Sony = Nintendo >>> Microsoft

And yes Microsoft lied about RROD issue or at least refused to address it but for BS they're nowhere near the competition.

Sony > Microsoft > Nintendo

Sony:

$600 is cheap, you are getting a hell of a deal here (If you a rich, or your mom and dad pay)
CGI as in-game videos
The whole "$600 for the gamers $15 millions for the devs"
The strategy behind the Cell and the BR
If you want to release games for "da b3st" console, you have to learn to play with the cell
BC matters and a lot, NO, it doesn't matters anymore

MS:
RRoD
Scratching DVDs
RRoD
Core Version ($100 for a HDD???)
RRoD
Games for Windows
RRoD
Laggy live

Nintendo:
Friend Codes
VC "a little expensive"

In Nintendo's defense, when I saw the Wii's graphics I did say "wow".
