Suikoden VI.

Wii.

No just no.

PSP or PS3 is where it should be at.

When will people learn that Graphics don't make an RPG good?  And what Suikoden needs badly is more fans, since the series has never been that popular (and both Suikoden IV and V sold less than 300,000 copies each).  Putting it on the least popular console, even if it has great graphics and top quality gameplay, will not enhance the series, only keep it stagnant or on the path to obscurity (not that it isn't already going that way).  And putting it on the 360 is a death sentence, as the plethora of mediocre JRPGs this gen can show.  And because this game is HEAVILY Japanese focused.

The Wii or DS is the only place that will make the series gain fans.

See my other post.

The DS didnt exactly move Suiko forward any. The only place it will have a chance is PSP.
PS3 would be my personal fave, with a kind of Blue Dragon game engine.

The DS didn't move Suikoden forward any because Suikoden on the DS was a side game.  Created by a side group in Konami who were effectively making a game that played more like a Final Fantasy game with 108 characters.  And to say it bombed because it was on DS is like saying Final Fantasy Crystal Cronicles DS was a bomb because it didn't sell as well as Final Fantasy XII on the Playstation.

But the point is, there's a reason many major RPG series are going to DS and Wii now.  And that's because Japans fanbase has overwhelmingly focused on those two systems.  And the major thing Suikoden needs is to capture new fans, not appease 'Sony' fans or those who like better graphics in RPGs.

Save state transfering has been killed off by Suikoden IV and V.  As well as the consecutive storyline.  If the new game is in fact a Suikoden game and the creator wants to put it on the Wii or DS, he can.  And it will be a wise financial decision.  The PSP, while also RPG heavy, might be a tough sell for Suikoden.  Because it will put the game in the same niche category as it was before.  While many 'RPG' fans own PSPs, not all of them are 'Suikoden' fans.  While if you put the game on the DS, you already have a much larger userbase.  And all you need to do is market it.  It will be like Konami is already doing with Castlevania.  A revival of the series.  And a much needed one at that.

But that's for PS3 and 360..... Not sure where you're going with this one.

Suikoden could see a revival on the DS (or Wii) and not have to simply be on a Sony platform just because the majority of other Suikoden games were.  Is where I was going with that.

Heck, my dream Suikoden game would be a sixth game using the graphics engline of Suikoden II, but on the DS utilizing the dual screens.  And connectiong to the story/timeline of Suikoden I-III.

What? Suikoden DS sold 30k less in Japan than Suikoden V and it's supposed to be a spinoff that doesn't compare with the rest of the series. I think I heard it sold comparitively with V in the West. The DS didn't really move it forward, but I don't see why the PSP would do something the DS can't. Also, didn't they say they want more Suikoden players anyway? Not like PSP would help that cause that much.

I think it can definitely hit the PSP but that's not a very good reason...

Anyway, I plan to start this series...sometime :P

Exactly... If they want to move the series forward they will likely have to try something new.

PSP.

What would ANY console do to move the series forward? The formula it's already perfect, you don't have to do anything. The problem is that people don't know it

The game barely sold anything on the PS2, what makes you think the Wii would make it sell more?

They tried a "different" fanbase. They dumbed down Tierkreis, while not a bad game by any means, it pales in depth compared to the main series (IV notwithstanding). And you can see the results.

I can't say what Konami will do, but if they're hiring Murayama, it's a step in the right direction. It won't be marketed to another audience, it'll follow the line of the main seires. Which is what I, at least, want. And it's what ensures the most the quality of the game.

So with Murayama, you'll still have a very niche title that no one will buy but that will most likely be a masterpiece

Nah, make it Wii exclusive just to see the ensuing meltdowns.

No offense, but the same people who worked on Suikoden IV and V were the people who worked on Suikoden Tactics/Rhapsodia and Tierkreis.  There has been basically 2 teams working on the Suikoden series ever since Murayama left.  And in interviews (some even on IGN before the release of Suikoden IV), they explained that they were trying to take Suikoden in a 'new direction'.

The low sales for all the Suikoden games following Suikoden II and III are most likely not the fact that its on X system or because they didn't have good marketing.  Suikoden was always a low budget RPG with bad marketing and the DS is the most popular system in Japan right now.  The biggest trend for why the games stopped selling well is probably just because they stopped appearing like Suikoden games.  And the #1 rule is, don't alienate your fans.

That's why I stopped caring about the series I once loved.  And I mean, even when the people making the games are saying stuff like 'we're trying to take the series in a new direction...'  That's not a good sign.  Especially when Suikoden IV and V feels like it has no connection to the previous games aside from the fact that it has 108 characters and a couple character cameos.  In all hignsight, you could really take the last 4 Suikoden games out of the timeline and make a new game called 'Suikoden Redux' following the storyline after either Suikoden I or Suikoden III and you wouldn't have missed anything (aside from a few references to Sindar and like 5 characters).

I want a 2D Suikoden for Wii or DS (not PSP please, or any other console I don't own :p)
