2. PS3 slim didn't take away Xbox 360 sales. It went up from last week. And Halo:ODST is coming out.

Will ODST really help with HW sales? Dont you think that most people who are Xbox fans/Halo fans, would've picked up the console by now? Both Halo 3 and Halo Wars have been released with good advertisment to back them up. Are there really that many Halo fans still out there thats on the fence waiting for ODST to release before they get a 360?

Agreed.  It helps slightly just because of increased advertising and mainstream media notice when something like a Halo comes out, but that's it.  So any bump will be marginal and likely spread out over these weeks - like it's already happening and is so small we don't even notice it.

Can't we all just get along and play our games in peace?

If 30-40% of the PS3 slim buyers were existing owners then how many of the 360 buyers every month are existing customers with broken 360s. I call fanboy BS. This site untracks the PS3 and over tracks the current active install base of 360s (I.E. not broken). Cross platform software sales prove it!!!

best start debut.

the best RPG's are coming 2013 !!!! oh my god, this is perfect for RPG-GAMER = ) Ni No Kuni - 25 january, Time and Eternity, tales of xillia (PS3) and the maybe best game ever: metal gear solid ground zero

360 = Piracy, very easy piracy (no cost to enable it)

PS3 = No Piracy

That's the reason, end of that.

Predictions for 2009:

360: 39-42 PS3: 31-34 Wii: 67-70

Future projection

Wii will hit 100 million before christmas 2010 (made december 2008)

NDS Family will have sold and shipped more then PS2 at the end of 2009 (made january 2009)

lol this forum has to be one of the worst around as far as fanboys are concerned

Predict the PS3 sales to be MUCH lower than they actually are.

When you're proven wrong, start making up excuses and pulling ridiculous guesses out of nowhere.

I love it.

well the 30-40% previous ps3 owners is bogos, we will find out next week.

Nice for Sony I guess but remember this is only a small snapshot in the grand scheme of the overall console race. The true test will be how well these sales hold up in the coming weeks. If sales drop back down to the levels (or near levels) of before the slim was released in the next couple of months while 360 and Wii still maintain their larger sales, then Sony could be in some trouble as they won't be able to rely on the price drop card again for a long time after taking a mere less than 3 years to chop 50% off their original price. This also makes the 10 year plan that Sony proudly boasts about more implausable because of the rapid devaluation of the console in such a short time.

There also hasn't been a real increase in software sales this week in comparison to the huge hardware increase which leads me to believe a decent amount were people already owning a PS3 simply rebuying the PS3 new model. Not to discredit these tremendous hardware sales for the week, just playing devil's advocate here.. Anyway it'll be interesting to see how the holiday season shapes up between PS3 slim, 360's price cut and Halo ODST, and Wii with Wii Fit plus and NSMB Wii.

@rafichamp

we will never find out overall,......no-one will say

Acting like the active install base of 360s isn't lower due to broken systems is just nieve. Piracy only adds to this and makes the situation for the 360 worse. I bet puplishers have estimates of these things but we'll never really know I guess.

Also, now that the PS3 is cheaper I'd expect a software increase due to both an increased install base and also the fact that new buyers will have more money to spend on software at the time of purchase (money otherwise spent on hardware).
