Forums - Sales - Hardware Sales, Ps3 Slim Surpass 550,000

The most hardcore console owners will buy the new model on day one. This applies to all consoles when new system revisions are launched resulting in a huge first week boost.

you think that and you guess 30-40% in japan.

Yes, just like the hardcore owners buy a console day one of launch. Like the BC, 4 usb ports, mem card reading and harddrive upgradable original fat PS3 right? And since these same hardcore owners are so super hardcore theyve probably already upgraded their HD's to 500gb right?

So it makes sense that these hardcore people would pay more money to give up BC, usb ports and card readers. Good point.

thats one huge spike, and I guess it was needed!

still nothing is certain about this holiday, which will finally make the sales some more interesting.

30-40% of PS3 Slim launch sales in Japan were from existing PS3 users who wanted to upgrade their old systems.

Source? else I call this bullshit.

Weekly analysis ioi said it himself around 30-40% of PS3 Slim owners were existing PS3 owners.

ioi also said PS3 wouldn't cross much over 50K in Japan in slims launch week

he also said in september PS3 slims WW sales wil be 600K (550K week 1 now in fact)

so he can be wrong.....frankly 30 - 40% rebuying a PS3 sounds ludicrous to me

until famitsu or some japanese source doesn't make a issue out of this, it doesn't sound believable to me

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

^If you go by software sales in Japan, it's clear not many new people picked up a slim.

Anyway, looks like the PS3 has finally outsold the DS, although it will probably only be for this week, still impressive.

How much does Sony lose per console sold right now? Say $50, that would mean Sony just lost 27.5 million bucks in 1 week. Let's hope that make money back on the software plan works out for them lol.

Consoles Owned: Atari 2600, NES, Sega Genesis, Sega Saturn, N64, Gamecube, Wii, XBOX360

2. PS3 slim didn't take away Xbox 360 sales. It went up from last week. And Halo:ODST is coming out.

Will ODST really help with HW sales? Dont you think that most people who are Xbox fans/Halo fans, would've picked up the console by now? Both Halo 3 and Halo Wars have been released with good advertisment to back them up. Are there really that many Halo fans still out there thats on the fence waiting for ODST to release before they get a 360?

This excuse has been used several times, we will find out soon enough though.

Or many people bought into the used market, which is a huge market there.

Oh well, it seems the anti-PS3 folks figured out how to marginalize the success last week.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

ioi say's a lot of things and it was simply a guess on his part. He made an educated guess due to the bump in PS3 software sales not being high. What people do not understand is just how big the second hand market is in Japan.

You lot need to see what care the stores take of second hand games. Mint condition, would be impossible to tell it was second hand without being told and considerable cheaper. I rarely purchased a new game back in Tokyo because a few days later I would get the game in mint condition for a nice price.

That's what many people don't understand.  That's why there was a lag in time before PSP software sales started picking up there after the hardware was consistently higher for a while.  I remember tons of people talking about that as well and how the PSP was not really doing better, etc.

But yeah, I got a mint condition Super Famicon in original box, instructions, and even the warranty paper.
