Not sure, but considering how much media buzz the franchise gets just over a mere screenshot of one of their upcoming games, I doubt the end is anywhere in sight...

It would take several crappy-mediocre quality games in a row before sales started slipping and even then, I don't think it would die.

If you played all Final Fantasy games excluding spin-offs, then you would know it won't end. Its like a tree with branches. Each branch is a different experience. Different characters, worlds, stories, gameplay. Each Final Fantasy gets better and better (except X-2) with better graphics and fun gameplay. But 13 won't be much unless its the japanese version. Why? Because the japanese version is ps3 exclusive and will have a crap load more content than the US version since the US version has to share it with Xbox.
