I have both (XP and Ubuntu), but that's pretty funny. the part about updates is gold, Vista has an update every f**** day.

However a Windows update isn't going to screw up your xorg and cause you to mess around in the files via command line while trying to fix it.

Neither does a Linux update, if you stick to one version of a distribution. How many new versions of Windows that have significant window manager changes have bug-free transitions? (#1 cause of Vista crashes for the first 2 years or so was the Nvidia driver).X.org is going through a lot of changes right now, when things calm down after DRI2, Gallium3D, KMS, and the AMD/Intel rewrites, the breakage will be much less.

If you stick to the open-source drivers you get much less hassle; start installing the proprietary ones and they inevitably break.

Finally, when it does break, you should always get a graphical fallback that asks to reconfigure the X server automatically (I did).

Can you summarize your point in one sentence?

lol I love Microsoft, it really flips other companys "the bird" every once and a while

It doesn't break more often than Windows, and when it does you don't have to do command-line editing to fix it.

The first point is an entirely other argument that can be interpretted and spun in many ways.

The second is ignorance on your part because it has happened to myself, a friend, and likely countless others.  When xorg specifically fails, you will get a screen asking to reconfigure however when HAL daemon breaks causing xorg to fail then you will not.

You'll never want to go back to Windows once you try Linux. FACT

Linux is 10x faster than Windows. FACT

Let's just say that Windows would be better without the curtains.

If you tell me that those errors were with the open drivers I'll concede.

@ 786_ali

Well you have a few interesting points. Linux is faster, however after using it extensively I still prefer windows and went back to it.

I do agree with the "without curtains" comment (made me chuckle).

Linux is a decent system, however, it's fate is sealed because people are lazy and would rather stick with a familiar and easier system without compatibility restraints, than learn something new.

The thing is, even when I was using the proprietary drivers and xorg crashed, I was able to fix it with a little google and command line.  In Windows, I would have been sunk.

Also, whenever I fix something in Linux it is a learning experience.  Now, I know what to do to prevent those proprietary drivers from crashing.  Linux means more control to the user.

Oh, and here is the link to the Neowin forums. It is funny; they are so juvenile (which is what I called them). I basically said how the gamers over at vgchartz are more mature than they are.
