Forums - Nintendo - What game will be the 9th million seller Wii game?

naznatips said:  I just don't think RE:UC has anywhere near the kind of selling power it would need to hit 1 million this year. I don't even think it will hit 1 million lifetime. It's a niche genre (lightgun shooter) and it's not even all that good a game in that genre according to IGN.

I'll take you up on that bet Naz.

Well it might not hit 1 mil in 07, I'm willing to bet that by the end of January, Umbrella Chronicles will be over 1 million World Wide sales.

It should see pretty good sales in all three regions. I think the game has a lot going for it. It's not only got the RE franchise, but it's unique look at the whole of the RE backstory will entice a lot of previous fans of the series. As for IGN, they're last hands on seemed much more positive than those before it, and with the amount of change that seems to take place between play tests, it should be a fair bit better by the time it hits store shelves.

So, you want to take that bet?

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

jimmy you're right, NiGHTS isn't hitting till 08 so I removed that. I just don't think RE:UC has anywhere near the kind of selling power it would need to hit 1 million this year. Yeah, obviously Link's Crossbow Training will but I'm not sure that's worthy of being counted lol.

How dare you say any game with Zelda in the title doesn't deserve to be counted!!!! Ok, the Zelda whore in me has calmed down, so it may not deserve to be counted since it's sort of like Wii Play but according to IGN it's actually a better game than RE:UC at this point.

I would have to guess that Mario Galaxy will be the next 1 million seller on the Wii. If it hasn't sold 1 million in Japan alone by the time it releases in the US then first day US sales will put it over 1 million. The 3 main contenders to hit 1 million before Nov 12 are MP3, RE4, and Strikers. Using current US/JP sales and guesstimating EU sales based on GCN equivalent game attach rates I would guess those three will be at 830k, 930k, and 910k on Nov 12. I would say Strikers will hit 1 million by the end of Nov with MP3 following shortly after and RE4 doing it in early Dec.

My bet would be that the only other Wii games that will hit 1 million this year are GHIII and Mario & Sonic. Of games released this year I would say Zelda:LCT, RRR2, RE:UC, Z&W, and BWii have some chance of hitting 1 million eventually. Of the games coming out next year probably 10 will hit 1 million but I'll leave that for a different thread.

Let's say half of the price of LCT is the gun attachment. Then it has to sell 2 million to be a "million seller."

It will.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

I only bet on a sure thing, so no.  I'm not positive, but I just don't think it's likely to do as well as RE4.  Even with IGN's claims of recent improvement they still cited Link's Crossbow Training as a better game. That seems to suggest serious issues.  I'm not so sure about that game.

one of these:mario strikers charged, resident evil 4,big brain academy wii degree, metroid prime 3 or mario galaxy

Link's Crossbow Training might be the better game (might not be), but it's not a full game, nor is it multiplayer. Doesn't mean Link's won't sell more because of the price, but it shouldn't deter people from buying RE: UC. And I may be wrong on this, but doesn't RE come with the shell too?

SM64 was no doubt great, but Sunshine was still good and long.
Double Dash has alot better tracks and racing than MK64. The only thing 64 had better on DD was multiplayer imo. Blue block tower forever.

On topic: RE4, Strikers, or Metroid will be the next one millions. Along side Galaxy the first week. By the end of the year Galaxy will be 3rd/4th.

Good idea for a topic. By way of contributing, let me provide the numbers of some of the current Wii games closest to the 1 million mark:

Mario Strikers Charged (880k)
Big Brain Academy (820k)
Resident Evil 4 (800k)
Sonic and the Secret Rings (720k)
Tiger Woods 07 (720k)
Pokemon Battle Revolution* (600k)
Excite Truck (510k)
Trauma Center (510k)
Metroid Prime 3* (500k)

(Titles with an asterisk either lack European sales data or have not been released there to date.)

Obviously a lot of these games are just about finished selling, but I tried to list everything over 500k just for comparative purposes. Mario Strikers does indeed look like the best chance to hit 1 million next; it's selling a little under 10k in the American market weekly, likely a similar number in Europe, and did 22k in Japan last week (still a new release). It should be able to do ~25k worldwide for the next four weeks and pass 1 million in the first or second week of November. Mario Galaxy is the only other game with a realistic chance of passing 1 million sooner (depends on how big the opening week in Japan is).

Surprised no one mentioned Big Brain Academy Wii, which will surely pass 1 million before the end of 2007.

My Website

End of 2008 totals: Wii 42m, 360 24m, PS3 18.5m (made Jan. 4, 2008)

On the list of already released games, we're missing Big Brain Academy. It's got pretty strong Japanese and Euro sales. So it will probably be hitting one million at some point. Not sure how soon though.
