Forums - Sales - Wii will NEVER Outsell HD Consoles Combined THIS Holiday (50% not possible)

Do you mean for the whole holiday period, or on any particular month or week?

I'd be willing to make a bet on this if we work out the specifics, since I do believe Wii will outsell them both combined during December for example.

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Well it may say hi but it's still hiding for now.

I said "I think"

+ it was meant to have a ? in the thread title after the 50% thing, but the space ran out

You know what I do when that happens? I look at the title and see if I can replace some words with shorter ones. In your case, you could have replaced "NEVER" by "NOT", giving you the space needed for a question mark. It's not rocket science.

Now for the topic at hand: Nintendo has New Super Mario Bros. Wii and if the PS3 price drop cuts into 360 sales, it's not impossible for the Wii to outsell the HD consoles combined THIS (why is it in caps?) holiday season.

@1st bold -- dude NEVEr is just so dramatic while NOT is a bit bland you know

@2nd bold -- you've known me for 1 year on VGC now.....must you ask that question

@Rolstoppable

how will the PS3 price drop cut into 360 sales significantly when HALO ODST is coming & Xbox 360 also rose in sales last week

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

It will cut into 360 because they are both alternatives to eachother, and the PS3 has come down in price significantly making it more likely to be chosen as an alternative to the XBox than beforehand.

Xbox 360 may have gotten a bump on it's first week with a larger hard drive at $299, but it wasn't a big one and it can be expected to be cannibalized somewhat by the PS3 over the next few months.

Sure it will. Consoles always sell out during the holiday season, so the question of who can sell the most is the same as who can make the most. Nintendo's manufacturing capacity is at a point where it beats Sony's and Microsoft's combined, therefore it can't not outsell them combined.

Will it actually hit 50% this holiday season? I don't know. I don't think so, but there is no doubt in my mind that it will continue to climb.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

Yeah but it will still have great sales and it could get 50% if a price drop.

I like how you used "@RolStoppable" in your post, as if the first half wasn't also directed at me.

1) "NOT" seems to be more appropriate than "NEVER" though.

2) Good point.

3) The effect of the 360 price cut could be shortlived, because the PS3 Slim and price cut are more significant. I don't think that Halo 3: ODST can boost hardware sales throughout the rest of this year. Also, we have seen it in the past that when one HD console rises, the other one falls. With the current SKUs and prices, the PS3 seems to have the advantage.

1) But NEVER sounds more like over-exaggeratative

2) I know

3) Good Point

I think the OP is wrong, the Wii is usually still outselling the PS360 in every average week, I don't see why would it be any different in the holidays.
The software lineups seem to be on par with each other.

So the deciding factor of the console wars is who can manufacture the most consoles over the holidays?

Serious?

Why doesn't MS just ship 100M consoles next holiday and end this console war? Better make it 200M just in case.

Nintendo doesn't care about how much marketshare it has. It already has devs on its side.

They are about the profit margin, and profit will be much more suitable with a price drop in 2010.
