In October of 2007 the PS3 had a price cut from $499/$599 to $399. The sales went from roughly 80K a week, to roughly 150K a week. An increase of about 90%.

The PS3 went on to sell about 4M worldwide between the middle of October to the end of December.

The PS3 Slim has increased PS3 sales from 109K to 500K. An increase of 400% and more than triple the sales set by the previous price cut. Given that the PS3 sold 4M in 2007 after the price cut, how much do you think the PS3 will sell from now until the end of the year? Is 8M possible :O ?

If GT5 and FFXIII are out this year, everything is possible I guess.

It was a good result for release week, I hope it keeps on going, because if it does it will pull off a wii move and overtake the xbox 360, it rightly deserves the 2nd spot as sony have been working for so hard for so long now, we have good games and a good holiday line-up and all at a price which more people can afford.
Just wait and see what the results are for the rest of this month that way we will all know how much legs the ps3 slim really has.

And back then we were celebrating 150k as though it were a mammoth week!

As said, FFXIII and GT5 both hitting in 2009 would give it a good chance.

I think the biggest success for Sony though is it's marketing now, they really have in my opinion started marketing the PS3 successfully. I see the thing every shop I go to that sells video games, and the ad campaigns don't contain scary babies anymore - they actually sell the product for what it does well.

If Sony keep the marketing up they'll have a very good Christmas, and I'd imagine sales would continue strong well beyond then.

I should have taken that into consideration. Outside of Japan how many people would exchange their PS3 for a Slim? I can't imagine it being a significant percentage...

 That wouldn't explain the boost in software sales for so many games though, would it? I think you're looking at very few exsisting PS3 owners caring about the Slim. Alot of stores are doing a "Trade your old PS3 for a Slim" type deal though - things get messy there though as you can't really track used console sales.

Really impressed with these sales, if it really is up to 500k then gj Sony.
