Forums - Sales - Sony secured the second place this gen?

$299 PS3 will not dominate the market. It is three years too late for the $299 PS3 which should have launched with that price and it would have a chance of finishing first this generation. But it it is too little too late for the PS3 to finish first. Second chance is a remote chance for the PS3 outselling the 360 in 3 or 4 years time.

like most said, don't get too excited because NATAL could be very push xbox 360 as much.

I think Microsoft will have their own 360 Slim/redesign to release with Natal next year though.

Sony will eventually be no.2 worldwide I think though, but they will have to settle for no.3 in North America.

Natal won't cause a 400% increase in sales, u can quote me on that.

Neither will the Slim.

So far, Sony had a great start with the Slim. 500k is great! But we will have to wait and see what the future will look like.

I do expect Natal to move consoles more sustainable than any price-cut could do.

Last week PS3 sales around 100K,  this week sales expected around 500k....That is a (or almost) 400% increase in sales =p.

So you think this be the number we can expect on a weekly basis now?

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Slim caused a 400% increase (1st week vs normal sales), I know it won't keep up with that, as I previously stated. I think the Slim will cause a 150% increase over the sales it had. I don't think Natal will cause a 400% increase though (Again, 1st week vs normal sales)

btw, this is just one person's opinion.

If u were referring to me, Its not my opinion that Sony secured the second place. The title was overenthusiastic by purpose, to create a discussion about the future sales of consoles. It's my opinion however, that the Ps3 has a shot at second place, and will see increased sales from now on (By 150% or so). I also believe that it takes a little bit momentum away from the 360. Which is good, since it then creates competition, and competition means more games for both party's.

The PS3 will never overtake the 360 in lifetime sales. 2009 is just 2007 all over again. Big deal the PS3 might outsell the 360 by 2 to 3 million systems over the next 12 months. 2010 could possibly be a repeat of 2008 when 360 will have more price cuts and extend the lead back out to 8 million sales by end of 2010. 360 is not finished yet and remember the 360 is the only system to ever have four years of continuous increasing sales year on year.

No it won't it will stop by next year. And Natal will kill the wii sales.

MS dropped the ball. I can't believe they only dropped $100 in four years ($299 HDD-less SKU -->$199 and $399 HDD-equipped SKU --->$299).

Meanwhile PS3 has gone from $599 for their main SKU to $299 in only three years. (that's how people perceive the PS3 price - going from $599 to $299 in less than three years)

MS betrayed all his loyal fans by giving up the console war. :/ We only asked for one damn victory over Sony.

:O Sweet Jesus. Huge sales. Next few weeks will be interesting sales, and will certainly make for some interesting ... IS DOOMED threads. :b
