@PS3 fans, Natal's goal is to hunt on the Wii ground... not the PS3 one. Today, the 360 is still 8 millions away of the PS3. |
i thought it was more like 7 million gap

8-7 then.
Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.
| Nick said: You have to keep in mind that it really wasn't selling much at all for the last few weeks. This is a great spike in sales, but quite a bit of that was sales that were pushed back by a shortage of consoles and the knowledge that a price cut / new model was coming in a few weeks. If you spread the sales out to cover what would have sold average on those weeks this spike seems a little less impressive. It is pretty obvious that it will still keep sales at a nice high level for a while though... I just wouldn't use this weeks numbers in your conjecture since a lot of it is delayed purchases. |
This is exactly what I was thinking. However people will take what they want from the numbers.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

you are so full of excuses to bring down the hugeness of this relaunch. it was 1000% increase no matter what.

not incorrect, just silly as nobody ever compares that way. Remember, you expected no difference since the price was still way behind the 360 and your word " UK is 360 " , but moving close to 60, 000 is suddenly no big deal.

He's got a point tho, until we know the plateau the slim settles in we can't make further judgement.
Right now what we are seeing are two years of pent up demand explode at once, but once this settles what will happen?

what were your predictions again? I can safely say no one expected such big numbers, nobody. Now, you somehow know just 600k people waited two years to get the ps3 at $299. Just amzing how much people know after the fact .

| kowenicki said: @psrock So it isnt incorrect but it is silly? No it isnt... its correct and makes a lot of sense. What is silly (verging on hysteria) is saying demand or sales are up 1000% when the starting point is a MASSIVE drop in demand/sales. Do you want to take that bet yet? |
the 1000% is just an estimation, it could be more. But we didnt come up with that number, the media did. In fact, we don't even have numbers yet in the UK.
I really don't know how the PS3 will do next week, how do you ask me for the next 6 weeks. I havent seen good sales for the PS3 for over a year now, this feels new, weird, and like you I DON'T expect it to stay, but this is like dejavu, it happened to the 360 last year.

I never predict sales.
Anyways, are you gonna pretend it's gonna sell 500k per week from now on?
Because every pricecut on any console has caused a sales spike followed by slowdown up to a new sales plateau. If you are gonna try to defend that somehow the ps3 is gonna behave in a different manner than every single console including the ps3 (as far as the 2007 pricecut is concerned) I'd like to hear you why is it gonna happen.
what I really want to see if how Sony will compete over the Holidays where last year they were brutalized by the 200 dollar 360 SKU. It will certainly be a much less lopsided affair this year, but I don't expect that there will be some magical turn around. And cutting the gap in half by the end of the year is pure fantasy on a level that only acid users reach. We need to be grounded in some kind of reality here... saying that the PS3 will beat the 360 this Christmas is not crazy at all, but saying it's going to beat the Wii? That's insane... though I'm hoping a transition of sorts from the Wii to the HD console will occur much faster next year with the release of the Sony Wand and Project Natal.
