I think the point is Mars that they are making you pay 200 dollars more for a at best 10 dollar chip (along with a couple USB ports ect). Something that by now is considered standard they are now calling a luxury. That's where the problem lies. They removed it arbitrarily to call it a luxury.

What make me the more intellgent poster i  post my reasoning behind it, you dont you just bitch.  I payed 500 and i have BC if there was a $400 PS3 when i bought  my PS3 i would have decided is the 100 off worth the functin the console loses.  If it is i buy the $500 console, if the function is not woth it i buy the $400 version..

 If one is $500, other is $400.

People who are saying "if you want BC just pay more for it" are missing the point. That point is that Sony has publicly stated that BC is no longer any kind of priority for them, and that BC consoles will be discontinued in some regions (and other regions are likely to follow). Whether this hold true or not remains to be seen, but this is a fundamental shift in what their philosophy towards BC has been up to this point. It may be that once the current stocks are exhausted, no more BC PS3 consoles will be produced.

Sony have done plenty of things. They are introducing new IP's to gaming, taking High Definition to the next level, lowering costs as much as possible and have a very exciting gaming lineup ahead. Microsoft for example kept producing knowingly faulty 360's for 2 ****ing years before they admitted there was even a hardware problem and decided to fix it and still charged full price for the product. Nintendo ducktaped 2 Gamecubes together, added Waggle and called it their next gen console. See what I did there? I focused on all the negatives. It's very easy to do that if your mind is closed before you even enter the thread or discussion. You should try getting some air, maybe it will assist in you opening your eyes and mind to being more accepting.

About that first bit you wrote about, i think you wanted to say that Microsoft did all that. After all, they were the first party to give HD gaming, weren't they? Sure that they had problems with their hardware, but it's still all the same, Microsoft didn't mess up where Sony did. Now, if you were as cunning as you make yourself to be, you would know what i'm "bitching about". Seems to me that you don't even know that. Well, i'm not talking about the games. No, i'm not talking about the hardware. I'm talking about how Sony is acting towards me, you and every other cosumer out there. I'm talking about a high price that in no way will bring in a bigger number of customers. There is no way that you can talk people into thinking that a device that is supposed to be used for gaming is cheap at a 600, 500 $ price point. Further along the whole sku party began. The 80 GB sku? No prob doesn't make a jot of difference for me. Then came along this 40 GB sku for the wonderful price of 400$. Still a bit, but quite low enough to actually go buy it. But then i find out that bc is being cut out. Great, especially when my ps2 ison the verge of death. So i decide to buy a 60 GB ver when it reaches a proper price point. And then i find out that the 60 GB sku is being discontinued. What do you call that if not customer blackmailing?   Oh, and genius, you do realize that BC isn't just a minor thing do you? It's not as if only 4-8% of ps2 owners cared about BC, because it's more like 20-30%, maybe even more since we're talking about Europe. Don't you suppose that by scaring those people that there won't be any more sku's with bc in 2008, that some percentage of those potential PS3 owners might decide to not buy a PS3? Do you understand that the PS3 is not doing well since it has been released? Do you understand that at all? One last thing, you talk about joing a thread, blah blah blah, well then maybe instead of pointing fingers at me you would post something contributive to the thread and show me how it's done eh? I'm always amazed at how unpredictable I can be to gamers.
If I go by this thread's consensus, they could never understand me nor guess what my moves would be.
I'm like completely alien to most gamers :
- I've got a HDTV, full HD (native 1920x1080 progressive)
- My first console in this generation, like most people this generation, was a Wii
- I don't love Nintendo, at all, except for the amazing quality of their product. I even despise NoE. I don't even love most of their flagship games. My preferred game from "them" by far is Fire Emblem on consoles
- Unlike most people this generation, I also recently got a PS3, with BC
- I've actually bought several PS2 games in platinum versions (RPG mostly), and will soon go for the bargain bins for the RPG I still don't have

And if I generalized every gamer on my behaviour, like some here are doing, I would come to the opposite conclusions of theirs.
To think I despise Sony's product quality, and yet I have one more console from them and one TV from them. The think I hate the most from Sony, is that they made me doubt and buy a PS3 sooner than I wanted to. Because I know I won't have time to play games on it for a while. Oh well, I still have a BluRay player.

You should really learn how to use paragraphs, that passage was literally painful to read.

I was prepared to pay for the 60GB PS3 since I understand the concept of paying for what you get. People like you want the best but don't want to pay for it, you expect it dirt cheap like the Wii. That is not how technology works, you want advanced machines, you have to be prepared to part with the money to afford them. And where are you pulling those percentage rates from? Your ass...?

Also, BC is not that big of a deal, nor do I think that they are permanently removing it. They are obviously working towards a plan and I will wait to see what that plan is before condemning them. Of course though, that is not the issue with you, it never was, you are negative on everything they do, not just BC but everything. You refuse to see the positives, you refuse to see anything other then your own negative banter and every post you make about Sony or the PS3 reflects this.

You are just a destructively negative user. You only get in this world what you are willing to pay for... simple as that.

I have a hard believeing those chips cost 1-2$.
