I could be wrong, but I believe VGC only has the data for PS1 sales in Japan, which is why it's so ridiculously low on that chart.

Who cares if its the third fastest selling console, the Wii is still way more profitable than both ps2 and ps3 because Sony doesnt know how to make an efficient console, same goes for the Xbox but a bit worst.. they dont make a dime

But the thread implies that PS3 requires a last hope because of poor sales.  You yourself talked about sales in an earlier post in this thread.  Why the switching to profitability? 

As for that, it is undisputed that slim has reduced costs for Sony.  Sony is in the black (profitable) in the gaming business since they entered it.  MS is by far unprofitable, but that's beside the point.  Nintendo is by far the most profitable, but that's beside the point.  In terms of profits the only "hope" and logical thing to do is to continue selling the PS3 slim and try to reap some profits in the latter part of the PS3's cycle.

Is microsoft really not profiting off of 360 yet? Or are they like sony where they don't profit off of the machine, they profit off of the software/peripherals?

^^ don't know if your question was prompted by my post, and I don't know about the 360 hardware cost, but MS has already made a profit this gen, it's just that lifetime, including the first XBox, they are several billions in the red.  Sony is between 1 and 2 billion in the black (profit) since they entered the gaming biz I believe, after factoring in the losses attributable to the development and launch of PS3 (and winning of the hi-def format war).

Is sony currently extending that profit currently? I know that they were basically cutting even with the fat PS3's and the new slim is in the red by like 15%. But if you factor in PSP (PSPgo), PSN, PS2, PS3, software, peripherals...are they making a profit this year?
