arsenicazure said: Heres a quick question to all those on this thread.. how many of you have played/owned all the consoles on that list... personally I think the commodore 64 deserves a mention.. although it would be considered a PC.. |
I have, anyway
computers seems to be out completely or else the c64, TRS-80, Apple 2, and Atari 8-bit line would all be in competition plus the amiga and atari st, not to mention the entire x86 pc line of games
Anyway outside of things like the atari 7800 and odyssey 2 being as high as they are rather flawed consoles, unless the european videopac was taken into consideration for the odyssey 2, but I dount it,
this list is pretty much fine since it is a subjective list I can understand most of the points of view here except the 2 above mentioned oddities as every other console I could probably do a decent write up about what makes the machine worth owning, even the jaguar and 3do
also the atari jaguar actually has some great games in its library, the only thing is most people of never heard of them let alone have played them
many of them are exclusives too, Iron Soldier 1+2, Battlesphere, Skyhammer, super burnout, Battlemorph (the sequel to the awful cybermorph, this time it is actually a good game), Power Drive Rally, Missile Command 3d, Hyper Force, Protector, avp, zero 5, world tour Racing, and defender 2k are all great games that are exclusive to the jaguar
plus it has a few worth while non-exclusive, raiden, tempest 2k, rayman, cannon fodder, towers 2, theme park, worms, syndicate, cannon fodder, doom and wolfenstein
unfortunately when people think of the jag they think of the 5 games they've been told to think about, checkered flag, club drive, cybermorph, trevor McFur, and kasumi ninja (the fighting game with the scottsman that shoots fire balls out of his kilt)
overall though if you ever get a chance give the Iron Soldier games on the Jag a chance (don't base the jag games on the playstation late release Iron Soldier 3, it isn't up to par with the jag games), how many other games allow you to flatten entire city blocks with oil drum sized grenades?
The second one is a particularly great game and a real showcase for the jaguars hardware (it is the best looking 3d jag game by a rather large margin, even over battlesphere, tanks look like tanks, helicopters like helicopters, draw distance is good,) the only flaws are it is HARD, though this is probably because it was meant to be a bit of a send of last hurrah for the fans of Iron Soldier and the jag faithful, and it is difficult to track down, and pricey when you find it, plus it requires a jaguar cd for the better version of the game, but if by chance you have a jag or stumble upon one give Iron Soldier 1 a shot, it is actually a great game and cheap.
