Genesis and Atari 2600. Usually those 5 are the top 5 haha. Last time I saw it different from that was on Gamedaily when 360 was #1. But need not go into that.
My my, so much anger. Let you in on a little secret...
The PS3 is Sony's worst selling, worst rated home console in terms of games (THUS FAR), even though its good. This is fact.
The 360 is by far Microsoft's best selling, highest rated console in terms of games (BY FAR, THUS FAR).
The Xbox did more for Microsoft then the PS3 has ever done for Sony, except that they both brought them in the red.
Regardless of how much we don't want to believe it, the 360 has the highest amount of "metacritic" AAA based games this gen, which is sadly low compared to last gens. It is also selling much more rapidly then any Microsoft console, and is actually fighting against the Sony, the previous gen's leaders. Any questions, just ask.
Before you say anything though...I can't explain why the PS1 is below the 360, except that they did the same thing for their respective console makers...the PS1 did more though. It brought Sony to #1! I'd switch those two around. And my personal love for the Dreamcast makes me a bit...frustrated to not see it in the top 5. But I can understand this...I guess...
GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.
Everything is relative to its time ... some people arn't getting that. Further more it's just IGN's personal opinion ... lol

By your logic, since these are old retired consoles,the only ones that matter are the ones that currently sell.. well just in case you didnt figure it out.. its the "GREATEST console of all time" list.
Obviously, you havent owned/played a DC.. if you did you'd have some idea of what I was talking about...

a. a AAA 3D sonic title
b. a nintendo developed game that has a "M rating"
c. redesgined PS controller
d. SEGA back in the console business
e. M$ out of the OS business

No, my logic is that a console that was on the market for 7 years will undoubtedly have a more complete library than a console that was on the market for 2 years.
I know what the list is called. Some of you seem to think it's the "Top 25 Videogame console within their first 2 years". Sorry, special treatment shouldn't be made for DC because it failed so early.
That article from IGN is nothing more then opinions with their reasons.
All i know is that B/C PS3 is the best console ever IMO ^___^
