Forums - Gaming Discussion - Ubisoft struggles with 360's DVD, and PS3's lack of sufficient memory.

Looks like neither of our powerhouse consoles have everything they need.

"Both have their own challenges. Right now we have a big challenge on the 360 to make it fit on a DVD, to put five languages, to put all the data on eight gigs. On the Blu-ray side we're really good, but then the memory is quite different. How we handle memory is really different between the two machines and we're struggling right now on the PS3." says Desilets.

There is no lack of sufficient memory!!

OMFG!! 256mb of ram is enough!! Heck even 128mb of ram is enough on a console!
You dont need 1 gb of ram for anything. They just dont know how to use the SPU'S and share the data. They are probably having problems PORTING the 360 version over, since theuse most of its ram. But you have to seperate it among the SPU's on the ps3. Different scenerio.

512mb of ram is enough.

On topic, yeap, this is old news starcraft

By me:

Made with Blender + LuxRender
"Since you can´t understand ... there is no point to taking you seriously."

Ok, didn't know that. If its old news someone lock it. But its still very interesting. Looks like both these consoles are going to have one fundamental block each to continual progress. (from a technological point)

He isn't saying there isn't enough RAM. He's saying that the PS3's memory is harder to work with. It's not that you can't work with 256MB. It's that the 360 can do up to 384MB for AI, while using the same amount of VRAM as the PS3.

It can be done with the SPEs, but NO ONE knows how to properly use them yet, not even Sony,* so you can't call just one group out for simply pointing out that obstacle, especially when he doesn't say it can't be done at all. He just said it was the challenge for the PS3's side.

Comment's like that are typical fanboyism. You tout any deficiency of the other systems as fatally crippling (like the DVD drive), but you complain when anyone brings up any deficiencies of your system, even if we point out those are not fatal deficiencies. Just because the PS3 is not superior in every way to the 360 does not mean it can't have good games.

*I do have a hunch Katuragi is working on that right now.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

THe PS3 handling of memory is quite different and its normal that they are having problems to exactly replicate some things .But with time they will know how .DVD ,though ,isnt having more capacity anytime soon .

Is that kind of "time" really something the PS3 has for this game though? Just a thought.

Sounds like the 360's only problem is they don't want to put it on multiple discs, that seems a pretty easy fix, just put it on multiple discs.

I am curious how this game will play out. I expect the 360 version to rank higher overall.

I think were in that technological state where multiple discs are not longer needed. They are more so viewed as a hassel than anything else. When you have a medium option out there that can hold a lot of space and make everything fit on one disc it makes everything easier. If microsoft would allow developers to make use of their HD-DVD drive that some have. Then space would not be as much of an issue.

Why are they putting five languages on one disc?
