Only thing I don't like is the lack of PS3 logo at game start. Everything else is great...including the friends tabs. Makes seeing them much easier. They used to blend in to the background too much.

I like it, and yeah the large icons caught my by surprise, but I'll get use to it, though it would have been nice to have an option to like small, medium, large for icon size.

The friends list thing, looks cool.

As for video playback, have they added any new codecs, or improved support in any fashion?

I don't have any TV tab, I've tried restarting the PS3 a couple of times. I even made a UK account just in case BBCiPlayer is exclusive to people from the UK, but still no tv tab.

Apparently when it does a system update, it also does a hardware check and since mine is in the middle of my repairing it, it comes up with an error message with a problem with the bluray drive (I'm pretty sure I know why it's failing). Also, when it gets the error, it asks to be restarted, and when it restarts, it goes immediately back to trying to update. Now I have a fun fun infitinite loop until I can get all the hardware working. Not sure if I should be kinda annoyed or take it as a motivator.

You'll only get access to the BBC iPlayer if you have a UK IP address, as far as I'm aware.
