The sun will be overactive and the powerlines might stop working, but it won't be the end of the world. We're supposed to line up with the center of the galaxy and the sun, and there's supposed to be a mental shift to the age of aquarius where the world will be at peace and we will all sing and pick flowers.

The world (Earth yeah?) ending is possible, depending what you mean by 'end' anyway, it would be in interesting thought to be the last generation of people who walked Earth, the one's who witnessed the end.

But pinning it on 2012 is a bit much, no-one really knows what the Mayans were on about but the Mayans themselves, they did know a lot about space and other astral bodies that weren't even discovered until recently by modern man.
