Forums - Gaming - Are you a Non Completionist Gamer?

i complete the games that are overrated (to see what the buzz about)
and the games that i like, or have something interesting to show.

In a way, well in terms of trophies certainly, I've got quite a few games that I haven't finished at home.

I complete all of them, and generally try to get 100%, or near enough, on most of them.

I have non-completeitis myself. My problems is not that I don't enjoy the games, nor that I don't want to beat the games. My2 biggest problems are that there are so many damned good games coming out all the time, and that I don't have enough time. In fact, I don't even have enough time to beat games if I only bought 2 games a year. So I play a game and think it is a great game, then a new game comes out and I play that game and so on and so forth. Next thing I know I am where I am now. I have over 150 total games in my ownership and have only beaten 20 of them at most. And most of those games that I have beat are NES games.

The most recent game I beat was Breath of Fire IV for the original PS. This was only a few months ago today btw. I finally took the time and beat the game in say 32 hours of game play. One thing that I happened to notice about that game is that the Main Boss was pretty damned difficult. I actually lost on my first attempt, then on my second attempt it took a full 2 hours to beat him. I got very lucky in beating him too. I was down to a single player who was all out of MP and only had 129 health left (1 hit kill by the main boss). It was my weakest attack, it was a healer. That one last piddly attack was just enough to kill the main boss. I don't remember feel so exalted and stressed about beating a boss since FFVII. In most modern games, the Main Boss is a push over that rarely takes more then 20 mins. to defeat. You rarely have to take a defensive stance anymore.

Me. If it gives me a head ache to try to achieve everything then I won't do it >.<

That defeats the point of the game. Enjoyment is the primary goal of gaming, not showing off and getting trophies/achievements and bragging rights.

Edit: Completionist as in extra stuff (like collecting all the flags) or the core game itself, not including side stories and missions? If you enjoy the game, I don't see why you won't want to finish it... I don't see how you can really delay the completion of the game, and the end is inevitable... you can't continue playing the game for the first time forever...

Yeah, I rarely finish games. Usually the only time I beat a game is if it's really short or I really *really* like it.

Otherwise I find something else shiny and then move onto...hey a penny!
