Forums - Nintendo - Wii owns Holiday 2010!

I think it's safe to assume Super Mario Galaxy will hit in Q2, probably April or May. Metroid: Other M is a bit of a mystery but we know that Nintendo would not have wanted to show it if it was over a year away so I think Q3 for Metroid: Other M at the latest but it could come earlier than many expect.

The two that may hit for holiday 2010 are Wii Vitality and Pikmin 3. I can't see Zelda being ready in time and I think Retro Studios next game will hit in Q4 also and so Nintendo will want to spread the releases a bit..

Basically what you are saying will not happen.. I can definately see Nintendo shifting their dev resources upstream a little bit with third parties satisfying the expanded audience quite well, Nintendo will slowly try to bring in more of the core audience.

2010 will be SMG2 before March. Metroid Other M in summer. and I'm betting Pikmin 3 holiday.

Zelda won't come until 2011.

Plus, you'll see some Retro title in 2010 and some other big 2nd party IP.

Take it to the bank people, take it to the bank.

Wii owns. Period.

@puffy, Sin and Punishment 2 won't release untill well past this October. I have no confidence.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

why are people skeptical about zelda wii hitting 2010 but are fine woth pikmin 3? i mean at least zelda has a decent number of people working on it

This shouldn't even be a question mark...Wii has won nearly every week since being released, and will the other consoles might do better this holiday season, it's too early for anybody to doubt that Wii will win it.

Because console Zelda games can be delayed for years at a time. I think some people are thinking of the lengthy amount of time between TP's announcement at E3 2004 and it's eventual release in November 2006. I don't follow that thinking, as TP coming to Wii (when the GC version was pretty much finished) accounts for a 6 month delay, more or less.

There's also the fact Nintendo haven't shown any teaser footage yet, just the piece of art. Personally I think Zelda Wii has a good chance of coming during Q4 2010. It's been in development for a while and Nintendo are aiming for a 2010 release. No-one should take it for granted, though.

Galaxy 2 should be out by the end of Q2 next year. It could be released this year, but as others said, Nintendo don't want to release NSMB Wii and Galaxy 2 too close together. I think it depends on Wii sales, NSMB Wii sales and how far along titles like Metroid: Other M and Zelda Wii are. If NSMB Wii has the effect on Wii sales Iwata is hoping for, I think Galaxy 2 will be out some time in May, with smaller titles like Endless Ocean 2 and Sin and Punishment 2 coming along side the strong 3rd party offerings for Q1. Metroid would then follow sometime in Q3-I'd go with August for NA, and September for PAL regions.

It's very difficult to speculate what Nintendo could release next year, they are the only console manufacturer capable of keeping secrets. At this moment in time I think Wii Vitality and Zelda Wii are likely Q4 releases. I'd guess that Pikmin 3 may become Pikmin Wii, as a bridge title next October, if development for it speeds up.

We'll have a better idea after the October conference, I think. Nintendo could be planning a bumper first party year next year, we're just going to have to wait and see. Franchises like Kirby, F Zero, Wave Race, Star Fox, 1080 are all due for updates. Donkey Kong could make some kind of appearance on Wii. We also haven't had any of the new titles announced by Nintendo-Monado, Line Attack Heroes, Cosmic Walkers and others I forget. There's plenty in the works at Nintendo right now. I think we'll see many of these titles over the next 2 years, it's just difficult to say what will make it out when.

The Wii will win this holiday season. It can't not win, because of the simple fact that consoles have been one of the most popular holiday gifts for many years. All consoles sell out during the holiday season, even the unpopular ones, and so the only real question is who can make the most. Nintendo creams the others when it comes to manufacturing capacity, and this year they've even been able to build something of a stockpile. For that reason, they've got it lock, stock, and barrel.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.
