Forums - Sales - Prediction: PS3 Slim will sell mostly to existing PS3 owners

That wouldn't be true in my case... I really like the idea of lower power consumption (and heat) and a smaller profile in the video cabinet. The lower price is compelling as well.

One of the biggest factors holding me back right now is BC. We have a lot of PS2 games we still like to play (the SOE games particularly), but I want to be able to retire the PS2 if we get a PS3.

Hear that Sony? Get the @#$@! software BC working!

I'm an existing owner that bought a ps3 slim....and I love it.

But as a side note...most of the main stream isn't even aware that the ps3 slim exist.  Lol, I was talking on the phone  to a buddy today that was playing old school GTA on his ps2 and I told him I bought a ps3 slim.  He didn't even know what it was.  After I told him, he said he might pick one up now that the price was down.

All I'm getting at is that most of the "general" public (non web nerds) doesn't know about the price cut yet.

There are people who re-buy consoles even if they already own them, it's something that happens with the hardcore and is some what common even if it's only the minority that re-buy;

- for 360 owners they either bought another for for higher reliability, for the black colour of the elite , or simply to replace the broken.

- For PS3 owners, to replace their original 60GB PS3 because they either broke or because they can resell it, buy a slim and still have made a profit, and of course to get the slimmer version

- For Wii owners, at the moment their has been no other reason to buy another wii unless it broke and is out of warranty, but as soon as new colours start coming out, then I can see the same exact thing happening that happened with the PS3 and 360, some will re-buy a wii if the colour changes.

So saying that "it's pretty safe to say that the PS3 Slim will sell mostly to the existing PS3" is false, as I've said it's only the minority who re-buy consoles despite them already having a working console.

I know you don't want the PS3 slim to sell, I know you love Nintendo, and I know your creating this thread in hopes that it comes true as well as baiting people, but there is no denying that $100 price cut along with a smaller redesigned PS3 will move units to new customers...believe it or not there are wii owners who do indeed want a PS3 but where simply waiting for a price drop, same goes for 360 owners but to a lesser degree as well as finally convincing some of those that were sitting on the fence this generation and simply stuck to playing PS2.

One thing is for sure, come the next NPD numbers some time in October, you and this thread will be proven 100% incorrect.

Heres my prediction for ya, the PS3 slim will out sell the wii this coming September by a significant margin, not only that but Nintendo sales will be hurt by the price drops of both sony and Microsoft, you wanna quote me on, go for it, I even dare you too.

In my opinion the sales will be to people finally taking the plunge and getting a console that heard about the price drop from the shop window or their gaming friends or just for the price to drop on the PS3
then those in store looking for a bargain
then in the very minority those trading in their fats for a slim.
The bulk will be to brand new owners.

Oh my god

i really don't get why people buy more than 1 of the same console like seriously...

Yeah, I've never gotten that either.  I'd only get another one to replace a defective one.  Yeah, I'd like my money to go to something else other than redundancy.

I game.  You game.  We game.

I'm a videogamer, not a fanboy, but have a special place for Nintendo.

Current Systems Owned: NSwitch/PS4/XONE/WiiU/3DS/2DS/PCGaming Rig-i7/ASUS i7 Gaming Laptop.

Previous Game Consoles:  PS3/Xbox360/Wii/DSL/Pretty much every one thats been released since the Atari 2600.

If you want one in different rooms it makes sense. But more than 2 for one person really doesn't seem right.

I have a PS3 and I have absolutely no intention of buying the Slim - unless my current PS3 broke down, ofcource.

Sorry, Sorry, I am still trying to wrap my mind around the idea of members trading in (IMO) a better built, better looking, already proven reliable console for the new, cheap version, that may or may not have issues yet seen.

I don't mean to troll (or to imply that you were), but I have to agree. I'm struck by how so many people are apparently willing to trade in (and pay extra for) a well-built, fairly reliable, and pretty good-looking machine for a fairly ugly replacement. More alarmingly is the fact that the Slim is apparently the product of Sony doing damn near everything it can to reduce its manufacturing costs: while I'm not saying they cut corners with the thing, I personally would stick with my proven system and let others determine whether the new machine has any serious issues.

Just my two cents.

           I appreciate your two cents.

My intent was not to troll either.  I think the Slim is a great move by Sony and can/will do some great things sales wise.  I am just having a hard time with current owners trading in (and as you indicated) paying in excess to the trade in, a better quality console they already own.

As for sales, I can see some great things happening in regards to new adopters.

Some people just have to have the latest technology.  It's like they can't help themselves.

I'm not saying that all PS3 owners are like that, but I do know a few people who are.
