I wanna see a fat girl as the main character in Final Fantasy.

I totally agree, its one reason why I like uncharted so much. The main character has flaws and its noticeable (play the game and just run around you can see drake tripping over himself). When it comes to final fantasy im more of a fan of the funny characters than the pretty main characters. Examples being barrett, cid, sabin, gilgamesh, relm, strago, etc.

i think that the female lead in uncharted pointed out a something that has been missing in female leads in most games.

she had a 'typical' female personality and she wasn't abnormally pretty. she was just.. normal. the problem with most games (especially the Final Fantasy games) has been that they bring the women's personalities far too over the top. 

I don't see any problem with characters being beautiful, the problem for me is when they force sex appeal on them.
Speaking of "average" looking females I can't say I find Lightning very attractive (the newly announced S&M teacher looks good though, hehe...), and Penelo from FFXII was...ehh....Ashe on the other hand looked kind of hot with her mini-skirt (princesses can wear mini-skirts???) and Lulu get some points as well.

The real FF beauties for me is Terra, Rosa, Celes and Rydia. Sexiest girl is Tifa for obvious reasons (I'm talking about her hair...)

@ Soriku: That's called variety. If every female character were all feminine like you said, they would be all the same and that wouldn't be interesting. I think Lightning is a breath of fresh air and she doesn't look over the top gorgeous (she is pretty but not stupidly so either) nor slutty.

Though I agree you wouldn't want to look at an ugly character. Oh and pretty males are often what girls (interested in manga, anime and JRPG) like.

^lightning looks great. she's the most detailed girl so far (obviously, with the new hardware), penelo is very cute, and ashe is sexy.

but whatever your taste is, the point i'm trying to make is that all these FF girls are made to be attractive. none of them are designed to be a "typical" looking girl.

I see what you mean. I don't think FF characters ever has been designed to look "typical", neither males nor females. Maybe because they're meant to be "fantasies" . For me, Final Fantasy has always been about non-typical design. And I'm not just talking about characters but FF as a whole.

About the characters, sexy girls sell...and I don't mind as long as they're not making them Soul Calibur sexy. That I wouldn't like. It would be nice to see some "typical" girls from time to time though.

To find series with more typical characters you have to play Lunar or Suikoden or something like that.
