The best estimate is that Sony is losing some money on the hardware, but not much... around $50 at most.

Your post is confusing.
PS3 price = XBOX 360 ELITE price. It is not the same...
The 360 Arcade is still less than 200 Euros...
In fact, here in Belgium, you can find the following :
- PS3 slim : 299 €
- XBOX 360 Elite : 249 €
- XBOX 360 Arcade : 179 €
There is still some Elite bundle for 304 € with Halo 3 , Pgr4 and Gears of War

They sell more games online and they have a fee to access XBL.
