Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Should Strike 'Weak' Competitors

He must be confused. Subsidizing hardware to (try to) strangle out the competition and create a monopoly is Microsoft and Sony's playbook, not Nintendo's.

This is what they don't get. Nintendo will not play by the rules that first parties are "supposed" to follow. It's supposed to be an all out brawl.

It's like how there is a "right" way to fight a way, and if you don't do it that way, you aren't a gentelman.

wii made them 'weak' there's no point even now it is outselling them

I'd like to be like my fahter... to sire a son like myself

even if the ps3 and 360 were same price and nintendo ended up comign 3rd again. they wouldnt care

cause they made profit and out sold the gcn.

People just need to stop telling Nintendo how to make money unless they are making more.

As usual, people have no idea. Their objective is *not* to hurt the opposition - rather its too maximise their profit.

They always have a potential price-cut in the bag - but for now, they will rather take the "200,000 x $100" in extra revenue a week from hardware sales. Thats a measely $20m/week, or $1bn/yr.

I agree with this. That is Microsoft's way, to hurt the competition and "hurt" themselves in the process simply because they think they can cope with the "hurt" better.

It is a weak stragedy but that's what you get when all your business models are geared towards market share - like Windows which is hugely succesful but this market ain't the OS market.

Even if Nintendo didn't have such a big share of the market their gaming profits will be a lot bigger than the other two due to high profits on HW - even if you ignore the DS.

I don't know how much it cost to produce a wii but I am sure it is a lot cheaper than the cheapest x360 (arcade).

At least this one doesn't think they're eminently doomed.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Its kind of funny seeing all ps3 owners getting worked up about the price drop, and yet the wii is still selling.

Its easy to say this now and pretend nintendo is on a high horse since Wii is such a success. From what I remember they were giving free handjobs with a gamecube.

They are in a position that they don't have to play the price game...and good for them. But lets not pretend nintendo never played to the beat of its competition.

I didn't claim that. I forgot to mention that a major reason Nintendo is doing this is that doing it the other way last time didn't help them or grow the market.

I agree, hilarious!

I mean, everybody expects the Wii to suddenly stop selling, right?
