Ah, Pachter and his fratcore whining again.
When the Arcade dropped to sub-$200, it actually did gain a bit of marketshare at the Wii's expense: the catch is, it was less than 1%. A $300 PS3 might make gains in about that range, but it is unlikely that it will make any more than that, because price has frankly never been the issue.
The idea of the Wii being somehow "worth less" because of its techniology is BS, something only technophiles believe. The value of a console comes from the games it plays, and nothing more, and while neither the self-described "hardcore" (having long been converted to technophiles) nor the analysts who follow them understand this, the market does, and the market has spoken: Wii wins. This price drop will not change that.
Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.
