Forums - Gaming - Batman Arkham Asylum, GOTY Contender

Well if Assassin's Creed got nominated for GOTY in its time I don't see why this shouldn't. Or any game for that matter.

Haha, ouch. Thats harsh.

But I agree...there are these critically acclamed games that jsut fly over my head. Assaisn, Bioshock,  this...

Just shows that metacritic is worthless when it comes to personal preferences. The only thing its good for is forum arguments...

I think this game can be a contender for game of the year, I just completed it and it was great. Now I'll search for the Riddler puzzles and probably play it again on hard.

I guess i'll get this one for my ps3

No offense, but your argument reads "Hata's gotta hate, so I'm gonna hate"

I'm going to put aside Metacritic for a second. I've never been the one to say "this review means you have to think this way"!, though you have to admit that this game has won over almost every single reviewer universally.

It's almost like you took a hiatus from video games the last 5 years, then came back and are complaining about universal changes designers have made to video games.

People like this game because of the story, gameplay, action, stealth elements and a thousand other reasons. It's the original voice actors from the animated series, its the mind trips you go on from the Scarecrow onward... It's the joker.

Scripted? Almost every game nowadays is scripted
"Just follow the guide and push buttons" - Again, almost every game nowadays is like this.
Too easy? Put it on hard mode

Overall games have become much easier, been more scripted, and contain a lot of the elements that you are singling this game out for.

It's an amazing action game, has a great story, and pretty damn smooth graphics. I'm not sure what else you could ask for out of it.

Also when factoring in GOTY, this game is going to be close. I sincerely feel like AC2 is going to recieve mixed reviews, only because some people will stop at nothing to hate the franchise (or Ubisoft). I feel similar about Uncharted. Do not be surprised if Halo:ODST recieves one of the highest ratings this year. Reviewers seem to have a hardon for bungie games.

Everyone who owns a PS3 or Xbox 360 needs to play this game.  The game grabs a hold of you like Bioshock and puts you into a different world.  The controls are great and the voicework is fantastic.  I know there are some serious heavy hitters coming out in the next few months, but this game is easily one of the best released so far this year and definitley the best 3rd person action game.

I agree with you. I felt that way just by playing the demo. I got this one and infamous for the weekend.

It is better to die on one's feet

then live on one's knees

It does look like the rare comic book game worth playing.

I think its an awesome game, but I love Batman so my OP is a bit.......biased. I rented vice buying, simply because I need to intelligently purchase games this holiday, and there are so many awesome ones for my PS3 and 360 it is getting difficult to choose.

GOTY, well it is a matter of opinion. It is sitting currently at 91 on meta, that is always a nice thing. I do think it is a AAA game though.

@dorbin2009

wow, where to start.

1. There were multiple people posting ehre that said the game is not that great. am not saying its a terrible game but its nothing special taht would deserve a thread about being GOTY let alone GOTY award.

2. I am playing on hard.

3. Not every game is scripted. Only the ones you play maybe. Play Condemned, Ninja gaiden, Half life2, MGS4...hell even Halo 3. All those games let you figure out how to beat a level. Solving a puzzle in Portal is extremely satisfying. Soling a puizzle in betman involves pushing night vision an looking for an object of diferent color. But you are right...industry is moving towards "easy". Hell people were complaining Splosion Man levels are too hard in reveiws. I beat the game and the game is fun case its hard...

4. It is an amazing action game? I agree it has a great production, but so does Transformers movie and that movie is shit. This game isn't shit, its a good game. Story I will comment on once I play a bit more of it...

All in all, the game doesn't pu the snap in my turtle. Too easy, scripted and cliched. This game could use a morality system cause I'd love to kill some of those guards...also like D_boy said above. I wouldn't mind giving Boxxie a fun time... :)

In exploration, you need to find and exit? No problem, it will glow a different color when you switch to your blue heat viewIn stealth, you need to sneak up on enemy? No problem, game will circle where you need to shoot your rope gun...you don't even need to aim.

Its just so scripted, no intuition or skill needed...reminds me of guitar hero. Just push buttons as game dictates.

Wow, sounds like Shadow Complex.  No wonder why Shadow Complex seemed so short.  Everything was mapped out on the map they gave you, and shine a flashlight and it revealed what needed to get hit with what.  Mind you, I had a good time with it, but it seemed short.
