How is it EA's fault? They created a game, obviously before Sony started work on these features, so there's no way they could have taken that into account when coding it. Sony couldn't get features working on the PS3 without making that game perform worse. Fanboys then blame EA, but why? If you're the head of a games development company and Sony contact you and say "we're bringing out an update for the PS3 that will make your game perform worse", I'm sure you wouldn't exactly be thrilled about it, and you probably wouldn't be too happy if you were a PS3 owner that owned that game. Sony should be able to implement new features without affecting games in a detrimental way. They're to blame for trying to patch Xbox 360 features into their console years after it was released.

However, the source said that only a small percentage of games had serious problems with the new features. Not only that, the supposed game that caused this whole stink was a Harry Potter game.

If that's true, a freaken movie tie in is what was stopping stuff like in-game soundtracks and such from being available for all games that would support it.... Instead we're left with it being the developers choice to implement it or not and that hasn't been working out all too well thus far.

 

It doesn't matter what the game is. Sony couldn't implement new features into the PS3 without it affecting how some games play, so the developers of those games are within their rights to be pissed off about it, as are the people that own those games.

EA are being made a scapegoat here, and it's no surprise to see people unwilling to place a single ounce of blame at Sony's feet. People who are that obsessed by this stuff that they'll wish death upon someone's kid or plaster a forum with offensive images have mental health issues. What's worse is that it's all based on a completely unsubstantiated rumour. I'm not referring to you or anyone else here in this last paragraph BTW.

Sure they can be upset, but I don't think having a game in the small percentage of affected titles should give them a free ride from criticism if this is true (especially the part about the movie-game tie in) since by the source, these features were set to work as a system wide feature and not something that would be included only if the developers implemented it.

Again, I'm in no way saying that the crap going on in their forums is the right thing to do.

Interesting insider info if true. Cross game chat is the one PSN feature left that I really want. If its 95% backwards compatible just like in game XMB was with firmware 2.4 then I think it should be released despite what EA says. I don't think EA would abandon the PS3 considering the majority of their sales last year were on Sony's system.

This is pretty stupid. If EA really has a problem with this, then why don't they work with Sony on fixing the problem.

I don't believe Super_Secret though. He's probably your next gamesblow, silogon or surfer girl. He'll be right a couple of times, just out of sheer luck, but you'll come to realize that he's full of shit. When he's wrong, expect to never hear from him for a long time or forever.

He wasn't right out of sheer luck the first time. I can't be bothered to dig up his first post about the slim, but it contained information so detailed and accurate nobody could have known that unless they were some kind of insider. There is absoutely no way that post was luck. I'm still not convinced this recent post is from him though.

I say fuck EA and give us custom soundtracks and cross game for 95% of games. EA would still have to make Madden for PS platform (as per their agreement with NFL, the must make it for everything available at the time). The only other noteworthy thing PS owners would lose is Dead Space 2, but oh well.

His accuracy really impressed me aswell. Especially how he knew about FW 3.0 and the removal of the "install another OS" option.
