Forums - Nintendo - What if... Master Chief was in Brawl?

Please...I just think more realistic fighter like MC wouldn't really fit. And I DO think some characters don't fit in a game like Smash Bros. I don't a Joanna Dark would really fit...I don't think most characters with realistic guns would work very well against more cartoonish characters. Obviously, Snake works....but it is definitely comedic...I'm not sure I'd want more than one character who can sneak around to choke people to death as well as chuck real grenades.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

I'm a Nintendo fan but I'm also a pretty hardcore pre-MS Bungie fan (Marathon, REPRESENT, BITCHEZ!!!!!) and while I think it'd be pretty neat, I doubt it simply because Halo DS seems dead in the water so I can't imagine it happening between now and February.

I see him more as a Bungie mascot than a MS mascot, and while I'm sure a moveset would be doable for him, I highly doubt it.

"I mean, c'mon, Viva Pinata, a game with massive marketing, didn't sell worth a damn to the "sophisticated" 360 audience, despite near-universal praise--is that a sign that 360 owners are a bunch of casual ignoramuses that can't get their heads around a 'gardening' sim? Of course not. So let's please stop trying to micro-analyze one game out of hundreds and using it as the poster child for why good, non-1st party, games can't sell on Wii. (Everyone frequenting this site knows this is nonsense, and yet some of you just can't let it go because it's the only scab you have left to pick at after all your other "Wii will phail1!!1" straw men arguments have been put to the torch.)" - exindguy on Boom Blocks

If Smash Bros. just gave us new characters who "fit in the game" every time, that would be lame.

The Ice Climbers are two characters controlled at once, one following the other.

Mr. Game and Watch is what a cartoon person looks like on a tiny 1980s LCD screen, complete with frame-by-frame movement.

Pokemon Trainer stands behind the stage and switches out three Pokemon with their own stamina.

Snake chokes people, plants mines, and shoots missiles for his smashes.

Every one of these characters, people initially went "No way, that wouldn't work." And then when they were revealed people went "Wow. This is awesome. I can't believe they made this work."

The whole series is all about choosing characters who have no business being in a game together, and making it work.

And for the 4th Smash Bros., they are going to have to up the ante again. 3rd party characters from Capcom or Square won't be shocking, and they'll be onto the 4th string of Nintendo characters. They are going to need the likes of Master Chief to get people psyched for the game. In 6 or 7 years, when the next Smash is on it's way, I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo went out of their way to use characters who HAVEN'T been on a Nintendo platform, ever.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

Personally, i think the Master Chief clone in DOA 4 was pretty cool, not to mention since it also opened up the Station Nassau level, allowing you to fight in that arena. Also it was cool cuz if you play time attack with "her", at the final boss, they play the halo theme in the background as the song.

But back to the subject. Personally i dont even think the Halo DS thing or MC showing up in SSBB is even a likely thing people should rumor. Even though Bungie is now an independent company, a company is not just allowed to seperate from its owner cuz it wants too, So MS made some demands. Plus, if i read right, MS owns the trademarks for the Halo franchise, not bungie (Ensemble Studios is making the Halo Wars game, not bungie) so it wouldnt be up to whether or not bungie wanted to do it for it to happen.

Well I think that SSBB is so unpredictable, after I seen snake on brawl, I was so amazed so I think that anything could happen....... Brawl suprise us.....

WTF is master chief going to do? What you want kirby to woop his A$$?

It would be neat if Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft just made one brawl game. A Brawl type game with a few characters from each system... with online cross play.

Then you could have REAL console wars.

I would never want Master Chief in Smash Bros...unless he would be the comical, over-the-top character that Snake is now.

Nothing against him...I just don't see what kind of moves he would have...Snake works because he's got the kicking moves, as well as random explosives. Master Chief has grenades as well, but he's really not a melee fighter. There's a lot of characters that would work better than Master Chief.

Not a Halo fan but let's see: MC moves - standard kick/punch, beam sword, sticky bomb, reg grenade, gun.  Seems to work to me.  Not sure what an appropriate recovery move would be. But how many other characters did they have to work with with even less obvious attacks?  Captain Falcon anyone?

Captain Falcons attacks come from an F-Zero Anime.

Falcon had a moveset long before the anime.

They based the moves in the anime off of SSB, actually.

They could easily think up a moveset for MC, but it's more the issue that Halo DS hasn't been released and likely never will be.
