There are many different measures of power, China is powerful, it for example owns about 740 billion USD of US's treasury securities.

If you measure by amount of obese people the US is second to none.

But in terms of political influence, you can not argue that the US is on top.

And yes, Us handily wins in the "obese" category =)

Back on topic. I think it takes way too long to adopt a new standard for something, probably because people think what they have now is "good enough". Dial up was pitiful and you couldn't do anything with it, a huge leap was to go to DSL / cable which most people still use today. There really isn't much need for faster internet for 99% of the people out there.

Kind of like blu-ray's slow adoption, DVD was a huge leap from VHS, blu ray? not so much, most people are satisfied with DVD.

Haha... Yes the poster said most powerful, not heaviest, so that doesnt count.

And anyone who thinks China isn't the next world superpower is denying the innevitable. Like the PS3 price cut, its bound to happen... I am not Chinese or anything...but I see them buying up everything these days.

1) South Korea 20.4 Mb/s

2) Japan 15.8 Mb/s

3) Sweden 12.8 Mb/s

4) The Netherlands (Holland) 11 Mb/s

The US lags behind at the 28th spot with 5.1 Mb/s (an annual increase of 0.9 Mb/s).

Shove that propaganda post up in your... Hey! Its not about propaganda PS3 and how wonderful machine is. Weird... Oh, theres The Netherlands. That might be the reason why did you post this. :)

Heres whole report,

http://files.cwa-union.org/speedmatters/state_reports_2009/CWA_Report_on_Internet_Speeds_2009.pdf

(Not for people with slow internet... 18.63MB :) )

Btw, I hope you have bought own koran already...

thx to your link I can see the ranking in the OP is wrong.

Ranking (megabits per second)
1 South Korea 20.4
2 Japan 15.8
5 Sweden 12.8
9 Netherlands 11.0
13 Germany 8.3
28 United States 5.1

The US is SO behind, I have a 15Mb/s connection and 2Mb/s upload connection and most of the time I don't get that speed.

It's natural that countries with lower population density have a lower average connection speed.

Basically, but not really.

Ranking Population densities from this list
South Korea 21st
Japan 34th

Sweden 192nd

Netherlands 19th
USA 117th.

Barely any correlation, though in general higher densities appear to have better connections.

So dont say it has to only do with population densities. It has to do with how much people are willing to pay for a service. The services in those countries are better simply because they are. You should also point out how a typical broad band connection in America is significanty more expensive than the other countries. Like double, sometimes even triple. We have a horrible infastructure and we pay way too much for it.

@ Barozi

Thanks for pointing this out, the newspaper made a mistake due to the first paragraph highlighting these 4 countries. I'll update the original post to reflect this.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

I am a bit surprised California is lagging behind so much, when I lived there, San Francisco seemed to be doing pretty well at the time.

Yes according to past studies Canada was ranked well above the United States and it's ranked 219th based on population density. Per square km the US homes tenfold the amount of people than Canada.
