During my time in Japan... I never really saw any girls that made me think "wow, that's sexy"

Now Korea... I spend most days wanting to sleep with the whole country.

lol.....plastic surgery is a natural part of life in Korea.

Oh crap. the Surgery part is scary. 15 year olds get their eyes done. I'm not a big fan of that. They're beautiful just they way they are. They really need to stop trying to look like white people.

who says theyre trying to look like white people?

If it's anything like China then they have a very strict idea of what qualifies as beautiful and most of the attributes that they consider beautiful are features more commonly found in caucasians rather than asians.

e.g tall, pale white skin, big eyes (preferably not brown), high narrow nose etc

If you took a  quick glance at the "most attractive" Chinese celebrities and stars you'd be hard pressed to tell they are Chinese/Asian at all.

1. other than the nose, none of those attributes are strictly caucasian (or even mostly caucasian). the only real thing that separates asian girls from white ones are lack of brow ridges. and whered you get this strict idea of beauty, anyway? are you PRC?

2. then show me this list of "most attractive" asian stars. im positive youre bullshitting.

I never said those attributes are strictly Caucasian, i said they were more often seen in Caucasians than Asians.  Chinese girls (in China) TEND to be shorter, appear to have smaller eyes due to more periorbital fat, have lower nose bridges and darker skin than the average caucasian girl. You can of course find Chinese girls or girls from many other ethnic and racial backgrounds that are tall, have pale white skin, "big" eyes and a high narrow nose, but that wasn't my point.

I lived in China for five years and observed that their idea of beauty in females is often defined by these few discrete characteristics and is bound up the popularly held concept of 'classic beauty'. Ask the average Chinese female what makes a woman beautiful and they will name most or all of the above features. I have, for example, seen some ridiculously hot girls in China who were considered not attractive by other Chinese just because of the fact thaty they had a nice tan.

Add to this the ubiquitous whitening creams available in every shop, market and corner store throughout China, the fact that Chinese girls ALWAYS use umbrellas in summer for fear of getting 'darker' and the booming and burgeoning cosmetic surgery (particuarly eyelid surgergy) in South Korea and mainland China respectively and i would say yes, it's fair to say they are trying to look white or aspire to acquire some features that are more commonly seen in Caucasians than in Asians.

I said i have seen many Chinese stars, i didn't say i was a fan of any of them.  If you want names you'll have to wait until my wife comes home.

@9Chiba:

Ask them, they will tell you themselves that they want eyes like caucasians. Stop that awkward political correctness, the world is rather straight forward. If you ask them, they tell you.

Funnily, a lot of Asian women in Europe want their lower legs to be straightened as their lower legs are often a little more O-shape than from white girls. And no 9Chiba, this isnt racist either but the experience of a orthopedic doctor I know - they go there and request that surgery, stating exactly what I just said for a reason.

Plastic surgery is just everywhere because women are insecure and instead of appreciating their own original beauty, they want to look like someone else. It's sad but true. Even if I say this, more than once I thought of having surgery if I could.

The fact is that I'm trying to understand people's acts about changing the appearence. Like people in Asia seem to like some white features while white people tend to tan because they like latino features? I'm not sure what it is but one thing I know is wouldn't it be boring if everyone looked the same? I just would like to appreciate the differences. Every race and colour has something others don't and that's what makes diversity great.

Topic: They're very pretty, imo, and the fact that most don't seem to age fast or badly could make any women jealous.

What's so wrong about wanting to change one's appearance? If it makes someone feel better about themselves, I say, why not let them? This can mean plastic surgery, working out, or whatever!

Of course, I'd say it's fine as long as it doesn't damage one's health... so nothing crazy like anorexia.

As for your second paragraph, I'm guessing many people can more easily appreciate what they don't have. For example, notice how the only two in this thread that find latinos overrated are the ones that live with them.

wow lots of bullshit coming from someone who seems like they reserached this in 2 minutes

so... asian women tend to have: smaller eyes, darker skin, flat noses, short stature

lol, just out of curiosity, what part of "china" did you go to? be careful now, dont pick something that contradicts what youve said. youll look like a total dumbass

and there is no such thing as the average chinese since there are so many different sects. and. like i said, whitening cream is just as easily found in the states. the most common eyelid surgery is "double eyelid" surgery which is not a quality of whites. living in china (which i doubt you have anyway, seeing how you cant even remember any names of hot asian stars in five years' time) doesnt give you jack shit in credibility , and its also highly unlikely that you just HAPPENED to ask them of what they felt was beautiful. and again, like i said, large eyes and white skin are NOT more commonly found qualities in the general white race just as much as the general "asian" race isnt smalleyed dark skinned, flatnosed, and short. i suppose all chinese women aspire to be fat too, seeing as the average woman in the united states is slightly overweight (65% of US women are either overweight or obese according to http://win.niddk.nih.gov/statistics/). and i do want names. for every "can hardly tell shes asian" star you name, ill put down 5 who dont, kay?

oh is it as straightfoward as putting asians together in a group? i can tell you now russian eyes are slanted and catlike. irish eyes are smaller (more pupil) and beady. german eyes are large but sunken. french eyes are piercing almonds (just like the southern chinese, but THEY dont have brow ridges). so what do they want? is it that simple? oh and btw white girls do have that oshape, but its more due to fat than muscle. the only reason you wouldnt see it is if the girl pukes or refuses to eat. oh and then theres lipo

9Chiba.  You seem angry dude, and i'm really not sure what about.  I don't know if someone said something in this thread that offended you.  If i did it wasn't my intention.

The point that Stof made, which incidentally was anecdotal, is that there are people in Korea that seem to want to look more like white people.  I said that my experience in China was similar.  Neither of us claimed to have studies to back us up or that we were representing the majority of people in either country, rather it was just something we observed.  This is the crux of my point.

I'm having a hard time understanding exactly what your point is here other than just disagreeing with me for the sake of it.  You are  of course entitled to do so but i will stand by my claim that there are people in China that seem to want to look more like white people and this comes from five years of teaching, working and talking with mostly females  colleagues and students in central China. And of course we talked about looks, it's something that people are interested in talking about and is something that varies with culture.

Now we can argue ad nauseum about what features are or are not typically associated with certain races or cultures but pedantry aside my point would still be basically the same.  Many Chinese girls aspire to attain features that are not common in people within their own country.  And what do you know, that's not that different from attitudes in the west with people aspiring to unrealistic body image standards that are promoted or fostered by the media.

In the end i was presenting nothing other than my impression based on my own experiences and for that i need no research. You call me out on my 'bullshit' yet your post is full of assumptions and speculation and a google search for "obesity in America", does not count as research.  You talk about sects in a country with no official religion, you assume i didn't live in China because i can't remember stars names and your idea of a retort is, you're wrong because i say so.

So to answer your question, "Who says they want to look like white people?", i do (with qualifications) and if you don't like my answer then sorry.

.......you guys need to calm down.......how did this turn into a flame war anyway.

@hsrob: From what I know the Chinese prefer pale skin in women since 3000 years ago, so it's NOT fair to say they aspire to "acquire Caucasian features", its just their own sense of beauty.
And not mean to be rude but I have seen plenty pictures of Chinese celebrities as I walk pass Chinatown almost everyday, I can tell easily they are all Asians.

@9Chiba: take it easy dude, this is not going to end well for you if you keep calling other people dumbass.

I was going to mention this but i didn't think it was worth getting into but that is why i was careful to say "features more commonly seen in Caucasians".  They (Chinese) have this concept of ideal beauty which originates far before western contact, which from an outsiders perspective might look like, "wanting to look white", but may not actually be.  The problem is that in modern times the waters have become muddied by much wider exposure to western media.

I take your point about easily identifying Chinese celebrities on posters but with respect you are walking through Chinatown and have the benefit of context.  I didn't say Chinese stars are unidentifable as Chinese just that it's not always easy to tell. I guess my point is that the images and ideas i have in my mind that represent the admittedly rather nebulous idea of the 'average Chinese' gained through living in China are very hard to reconcile with the images portrayed in magazines and by stars in that country. Viewed that way though, perhaps it isn't any different from any other country.

So are they trying to look white? Maybe not, but it's certainly understandable that it could look that way from one perspective and the only way to truly know which it is would be to ask.  Anyway i don't think admiring features in another race or nationality is a bad thing.  I for one would like a little less Irish and a little more Dutch in me.........tallest people on earth.
