Square Enix Doesn't See PS3 Price Cut Impact This Year

According to Square Enix honcho Yoichi Wada, the cheaper US$299 PS3 will spur game sales, but not enough for the company to revise this year's financial forecast.

"In terms of the impact (the PS3 cut) will have on this financial year's earnings, I don't think there will be a major difference," explained Wada. "But I expect there to be a big impact from next year."

Next year being when Final Fantasy XIII is released exclusively on the PS3 in Japan?

Simultaneous WW release for FF13?

They can't get a boost in Software sales until they have software available for the platform.

I think I know what thier planning to pull off here....deley the game again then announce it will release on 360 aswell in japan.

This is called "good business sense", thank god SE has it.

Wada ya know, S-E speaks and all it has is bad news for PS3 owners, wow, I'm surprised considering their meant to be releasing FF13 in Japan fairly soon, one would at least think they'd be some what happy since a cheaper PS3 means their games should technically sell more...unless of course their hinting at FF13 being pushed to next year for Japan...and if that's the case....there will be allot of angry people, allot of very angry and disappointed people.

S-E, take one step forward, but run 2 miles back.....perhaps the company needs to almost go bankrupt so that FF13 will be just like FF1, that way they can get their shit together, seriously I've had enough of there bullshit.

Don't attack me here, but maybe what happened is that Sony dropped the price of the PS3 and announced the Slim and as a counter measure Microsoft struck a deal with S-E to have FFXIII release in Japan along side the PS3 version and that news will be announced at TGS?

It will then be announced as a simulataneous WW release in Spring 2010.

Would be a smart move for MS but if that happens, expect a shit storm.

Could also be that the game is still releasing exclusively on PS3 in Japan but it is releasing in very late December and they expect sales to continue through the beginning of next year and FFXIV as well as possibly some 360 ports (SO4 maybe?) releasing.

A price cut could help a year like that a lot more than the price cut will help this year if FFXIII is a very late release.

Square-enix is living off past success. They can't make a hit without final fantasy or dragon quest in it. What they say means nothing.
