Forums - Sony - Why are some hyping Demon Soul like it is a game changer?

You're right, 360 fans don't hype games. Forget about Halo 3, Gears of War, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Forza 3, *goes on ridiculously long list*.

The difference is that all those games you listed, except obviously Forza because it is not out yet, sold like hotcakes.  The shit PS3 fans change their avatars for/talk up constantly never sells impressively, never gets super high meta scores, etc.  It is hyped because it is a PS3 exclusive.  inFamous is easily the best example.

To be fair, I've never even played inFamous.  I don't hate on PS3 either.  As I type this I am waiting on mine to arrive from Amazon.  But for reasonable human beings without an all-consuming console preference, it gets extremely tiresome reading nonstop hype about games that will never amount to anything, ever.  PS3 fans on this site continually make the most illogical and retarded comments in favor of their console.  Then again, you should know that, since you're buying the PS3 version of Batman: AA because the console is black.

So if people want to be excited for a game it has to sell well?  That's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.  I can't be happy because Demon's Souls is coming because it won't outsell Gears of War?  You say that 360 fans are more logical and that's why they only get excited for games that do well in sales.  How about this theory, 360 fans stick to games that are more commercially important because they don't know any better.  Couldn't that also explain the difference?

Maybe I didn't phrase myself well enough.  I see games hyped to death by PS3 fans on this board that sell nowhere near as well as multiplatform games on the same console that recieve relatively less hype.  It strikes me as a very odd coincidence that all of that enthusiasm is saved for console exclusives, especially when some of these people are clearly also buying the multiplats, and people in general are buying the multiplats far more.

The only reason to never talk about, say...  MW2 and only talk about Killzone (or Halo) is because playing up the one other people can't play makes fanboys feel superior.  Want a perfect example of why I can't stand this site's PS3 fanbase?  Look at Agent.  Here are the facts about agent:  it is made by Rockstar, it is PS3 exclusive.  Within 2 days of it being announced, there were at least 5, probably more like 8-10 people with Agent avatars.  About a game with nothing past a logo.  There is only ONE explanation for that, and that's, "Nah nah nah nah, 360 fans won't be able to play this game which may or may not be good once any substantive information about it is actually released!"  Look at the PS3 playtime stats for Modern Warfare or WAW vs. Killzone, and then look at the number of COD avatars on this site relative to Killzone.

Sorry for being so long winded, I just wanted to try to explain what I meant.  I'm not faulting PS3 fans for being excited about games that don't sell well, I am faulting them for their feigned overenthusiasm and illogical nonsense, which seemingly manifests itself only when a new exclusive is coming out.

I don't recall anyone hyping inFamous until after it released. (Badgenome: Leave this one alone.)

Is it ok to "hype" a game that you really loved regardless of sales? I guess I am asking our xbox fans since they are a little sensitive to this.

Lawlz.

I still need to play Infamous. Preferably before Demon's Souls, as DS sounds like a crazy timesink.

Both are game changers.

PS, I hate you.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

The game looks good, yes. Too bad I have too many other games to buy that I can't afford this one...

yeah, it's too hardcore and too challenging for you.

j/k

make sure to pick it up in the future, it's a game you want to at least give it a try

It (PS3's market share) might hit 30%, but definently not more. ~ Neo

That hype thread isn't going to be as big as this one. That thread failed.

So, wait. Gimme a sec. Are you saying that PS3 owners aren't allowed to hype games unless there's assurance that the game will sell well? PS3 fans hyped Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Metal Gear Solid 4, and a ton of other great games. Even if those games didn't end up selling like other big blockbusters, they were amazing games. And while we're on the subject, the sales of the big 360 games are laughable next to the sales of the big Wii games. Maybe we should criticize 360 fanboys for that. Oh, and do 360 owners not hype "meh" or bad games either? There's Too Human, Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Shadowrun, The Last Remnant, and really, most of the RPGs on the platform. InFamous was hyped because it looked to be a really great game from a proven developer. It got good ratings, and is quickly getting to a million sales. How is that "the best" example? How is that even a good example at all? It kind of disproves your point. And the next sentence made me giggle. "I've never even played inFamous, and I don't hate on the PS3, but here I am hating on both." Not the exact quote, but I had to rework it. People without all-consuming console preferences also don't hate on consoles for what fans say. Take it from someone who actually isn't biased, because I know you are. By the way, 360 fans are just as guilty of the things you described. Or should I remind you about 2 members who were 360 fans and left because they were constantly ridiculed for their stupid posts? You basically just insulted a humongous group of people with that statement as well, including me. I'm buying the PS3 version of the latest Batman game for not just the exclusive content, but also because it simply feels like it belongs on the PS3. It's similar to how certain series feel like they should be played on the 360. Everything about the PS3 is dark. The color, the boxart, Sony themselves, and even the desolate, creepy opening menus. It fits Batman perfectly. So really, thanks for insulting me and a bunch of other people. Now shut up and go away.

#1 - I am not in any way hating on the PS3.  I am not even hating on PS3 fans.  It's a great system with great hardware and great games and no doubt plenty of awesome fans.  I am criticizing the vocal minority of PS3 fans on this site.

#2 - 360 fans can be just as annoying as PS3 fans, the only real difference is that for every one annoying 360 fanboy on this site that leaps immediately to mind, I can think of three or four annoying PS3 fanboys.

#3 - Exclusive Joker content is a great reason to get Batman on PS3.  Boxart isn't.  And in the post in question, you pretty clearly stated that the reason you were getting it on PS3 was the boxart/atmosphere, NOT the Joker content.

#4 - Just to reiterate, I hate Wii fanboys and 360 fanboys just as much as PS3 fanboys.  It's just that there are, on this site, less of them to hate, and the ones that exist are less organized and blatant.

Not it isnt hyped at being a game changer or a system sekker or a million seller or anything like that.

It is hyped for being a good game that some gamers are eager to get.

Both Dead Rising 2 and Lost Planet 2 were hyped early until the PS3 versions were announced.

I'm pretty sure Dead Rising 2 was announced as multiplat from the get-go.

I'm pretty sure you're correct.

However I think he's reffering to the stage of time before Dead Rising 2 was even announced. Everyone knew a sequel was in the works, but quite a few posters were speculating it would be a 360 exclusive.

Yes you do.  Get it and finish it before you play Demon's Soul.  inFAMOUS is one of the best sandbox superhero games ever done.

WELL, FYI , THERE'S NO BETTER RPG THIS YEAR THAN DEMON'S SOULS...ANYWHERE....

there, I said it. Demon's Souls RPG OF THE YEAR for all consoles.

There you go.  Now add thaT RPGs are game changers on consoles, and you can argue that Demon's Soul is a potential game changer.  What I saw is Demon's Soul kept popping up over and over on list of games listed as reasons why the PS3 is superior to the 360, and wonder why the heck a big deal was being made out of this PS3 exclusive.

I've never seen anyone here say that, and if they were, they're just being super fanboys. The game looks great, and I have pre-ordered my copy and hope to waste endless hours gaming on it, but it won't be the reason why PS3 overtakes 360, other factors will contribute to this.
