You're right, 360 fans don't hype games. Forget about Halo 3, Gears of War, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Forza 3, *goes on ridiculously long list*.

The difference is that all those games you listed, except obviously Forza because it is not out yet, sold like hotcakes.  The shit PS3 fans change their avatars for/talk up constantly never sells impressively, never gets super high meta scores, etc.  It is hyped because it is a PS3 exclusive.  inFamous is easily the best example.

To be fair, I've never even played inFamous.  I don't hate on PS3 either.  As I type this I am waiting on mine to arrive from Amazon.  But for reasonable human beings without an all-consuming console preference, it gets extremely tiresome reading nonstop hype about games that will never amount to anything, ever.  PS3 fans on this site continually make the most illogical and retarded comments in favor of their console.  Then again, you should know that, since you're buying the PS3 version of Batman: AA because the console is black.

So if people want to be excited for a game it has to sell well?  That's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.  I can't be happy because Demon's Souls is coming because it won't outsell Gears of War?  You say that 360 fans are more logical and that's why they only get excited for games that do well in sales.  How about this theory, 360 fans stick to games that are more commercially important because they don't know any better.  Couldn't that also explain the difference?

Maybe I didn't phrase myself well enough.  I see games hyped to death by PS3 fans on this board that sell nowhere near as well as multiplatform games on the same console that recieve relatively less hype.  It strikes me as a very odd coincidence that all of that enthusiasm is saved for console exclusives, especially when some of these people are clearly also buying the multiplats, and people in general are buying the multiplats far more.

The only reason to never talk about, say...  MW2 and only talk about Killzone (or Halo) is because playing up the one other people can't play makes fanboys feel superior.  Want a perfect example of why I can't stand this site's PS3 fanbase?  Look at Agent.  Here are the facts about agent:  it is made by Rockstar, it is PS3 exclusive.  Within 2 days of it being announced, there were at least 5, probably more like 8-10 people with Agent avatars.  About a game with nothing past a logo.  There is only ONE explanation for that, and that's, "Nah nah nah nah, 360 fans won't be able to play this game which may or may not be good once any substantive information about it is actually released!"  Look at the PS3 playtime stats for Modern Warfare or WAW vs. Killzone, and then look at the number of COD avatars on this site relative to Killzone.

Sorry for being so long winded, I just wanted to try to explain what I meant.  I'm not faulting PS3 fans for being excited about games that don't sell well, I am faulting them for their feigned overenthusiasm and illogical nonsense, which seemingly manifests itself only when a new exclusive is coming out.

I can only see paranoia here.

Fine, if it is THAT good, then do hype it up.  I guess no one is going on record to say it is a "game changer" though.  I have seen far too many titles hyped as "game changers", with Killzone 2 being the prime example.  Coming as a sequel to the "Halo Killer", it was supposed to win over the XBox player to the PS3 for FPS action.

Here's the problem. If we hype it up just for being a good game, are guys like you going to come out and call it a failure when it doesn't sell 300K first week? [Which it most likely has ZERO chance at]

4 ≈ One

^I'm still waiting for that single game that "wins over" a entire fandom. Maybe the Final Fantasy/Dragon Quest series did that to most of SNES fans back then when Square went to the PSone, and that would have been likely just in Japan I guess, where those franchises are kings, but I still wonder.

I think if people want to hype their games, let them and STFU.

I have honestly grew so tired of people whining because one person or a group of people decided they liked a game and were excited about it's release.

I see these threads every so often and what I find to be such an issue is that when we have Mass Effect hype threads or Halo hype threads or Gears hype threads I don't see these same people bitching about those games being hyped.

Sometimes, like seen in this thread, we even have some of these people try and act like one side does this unspeakable crime of gaming excitement while the others keep it calm and do not display excitement or hype what so ever.

Like I usually say. If you're going to bitch about one, bitch about them all.

If it sells 300k first week, then it should have sold 500k.  If it sold 500k, then it should have sold 700k, etc., etc.

My favorite games this gen - MGS4, VC, ToV, and LBP - didn't exactly sell millions upon millions.

But yeah -  Fable 2, Mass Effect, Too Human, etc. were never hyped.  Only Sony fans hype games /sacrasm.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

had to add something to your post so I can say...

I agree with this 100%.

(if i didn't add that it would only be 99%)

I have never heard anyone hype Demon's Souls as a game changer. Au contraire, everyone says it's a very hard(core) niche title.

The portion you added is one of the main reasons why I dislike this generation.

Makes me wish I never began lurking on internet gaming sites.

When I see someone who acts like it is alright to be excited about a game because it sold really well and not ok to be excited for the one that doesn't... makes me want to smack them upside the head and inform them that they need to get their collective gaming shit together.

Edit -

Let me tell you also why hyping and praising of titles is a good thing.

Remember the VGChartz giveaway for the Valkyria Chronicles figurines? If it wasn't for people like Outlawauron hyping and praising the game and helping to spread word of mouth we may not have had SEGA's site flooded with VGChartz members asking for the giveaway to be hosted here.

Not to mention, if it was such a bad thing why did SEGA publicly thank all of those people when it helped with sales of the title?

Keep on hyping fellas!!
