Forums - Nintendo - NyxQuest: FANTASTIC 2D platformer, or AWESOME 2D platformer?

Great game. The repetitive environments and music don't bother me, since they're so damn pretty to begin with.

I was making good progress on this game until I bought Little King's Story...

Regular plataformer, great for a Wii ware game though but as Malstrom would say... its too quirky, yet fun

It's not quirky at all.

Katamari is quirky,Roomania is quirky,Chulip is Quirky,Giftpia is Quirky.  Icarian/NyxQuest is NOT quirky.

Edit: Damn I didn't saw Uno's post, what to do?

Don't get me wrong, it ain't Contra or anything. What it is is a pretty challenging 2D platformer with good controls and level design. In terms of difficulty, imagine the later levels of Klonoa, but the challenge comes from the pure platforming, with enemies and puzzles being quite secondary.

Think of Pit in Smash Bros., and how between his five jumps and his gliding ability the b***ard is just unkillable. Nyx has similar mobility, but the difference is that her game is about weaving between obstacles to get to the next platform. Also, while you're maneuvering Nyx herself, you often have to use the pointer to hold or move threats. So you've got Nyx gliding in mid-air, avoiding the harpies, with her glide meter about to empty and only one jump left, but in order to land you have to use the pointer and lift a column that's in your way. You usually have to do two, sometimes three tasks simultaneously. And the platforming itself is often pretty tight, with only narrow windows of safety or room to maneuver.

The nice part is that instant death is rarely a punishment, and checkpoints are common, so you can make two or three mistakes before having to replay the last minute or two. So feel free to make errors to your hearts content. But again, you'll need to get pretty good at platforming and multi-tasking to get past the third or fourth level.

That's fair. The WiiWare Game of the Year must bow to the Wii Game of the Year.

'Tis only natural.

Damn, I'm jealous. I need to get a SD card.

It's one of the best Jump&Runs of this console generation. The graphics and sounds are great! The gameplay is challenging, and uses the Wiimote in new ways for a Jump&Run: Sometimes you have to control Nyx with the Nunchuck simultaneously move some objects with the Wiimote. Sounds complicated but the gameplay is excellent.

I got it on Friday and beat it last night. I'm considering whether to go back through levels I haven't completed 100%. A nice option to be able to select levels, I'd say.

There's plenty of good WiiWare games, this is another.

Yes.

www.spacemag.org - contribute your stuff... satire, comics, ideas, debate, stupidy stupid etc.

I have it. I like it. I also have Lost Winds. I like that too. Umm, yeah Nintendo should remove Wii Ware's cap and make a harddrive for Wii.

i agree with this. Tales of Monkey island suffered a lot from compression, and the game is barely playable.

While I understand why you're saying that, removing the cap would completely destroy the purpose of WiiWare. Whether that's a good thing or bad is a separate matter.
