Forums - Sony - The hate begins: PS3 Slim has a slim chance

It seems to me that Sony wants folks to think the slim is a brand new console, question is
has any other console has been hated this much even before it got out of the traps? It annoys me how people are writing it off even before it's been released, give it a month or something before hating it.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

You surely live in a magical world where Sony does no wrong, and Microsoft is the devil incarnate. Take off your blinders, and read what I wrote. Sony two years ago wasn't even making production quotas. Now two years later with a unit that has to have been in production for a few months with new components your saying that this kind of pace is allowing for ample testing. When the hell did this ample testing take place.

Are you telling me that they had time to do endurance testing on these models. That they have thoroughly tested the tolerances not only for the prescribed components, but for alternative parts they may have to substitute to meet production deadlines. Your saying its scaled down so all they need to do is the math. In a ideal world that would always work, but we don't live in a ideal world. The problem that usually gets you isn't the one you even contemplated.

Sony could be safe everything can work out, but there are a lot of variables that are only able to be exposed with rigorous testing. There are reasons that car manufacturers crash their cars, that television manufacturers run their screens for months on end. So on and so forth.

Also don't give me this line about how Sony is a very quality conscious company. I spent over seven hundred dollars on their online service. I can tall you that is bald faced balderdash. They are just as happy to release craptastic code as Microsoft. I could recount horror stories of having to remove bad files they uploaded to my computer, of having to reinstall outdated drivers just to run their product that was optimized for new drivers. Hell I was rooting garbage out of my system years after I stopped using their products. I mean why do I have a Japanese game manual, and why wasn't it in the game files. Why was it a separate file, and why the hell load it into my system to begin with.

I don't buy the bullshit. I know better.

This sounds like before the PS3 launch when journalists still said that launch PS3s would fail and burn within a few minutes of use. Wait a minute, my 60GB early 2007 console (everything same as launch) is still going strong today.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Did you find this hate article while reading through the thousands of optimistic and positive articles out on the internet for the slim. How paranoid have you guys become that you actively seek out hate articles now to try and justify your paranoia for this entire generation. No company gets more hate than Microsoft period, stop your whining and post some positive news for a change instead.

Actually there's a video up from some gaming site that opened up their PS3 Slim (courtesy of Sony) and they tested it out for about 3 hours or something like that and they said that the PS3 was more quiet than the Wii. Judging by how it's so quiet you'd think that it wouldn't over-heat as much.

But there's a flaw with the OP's article that states the PS3 is smaller and has smaller heat-sinks and yada-yada-yada. But along with the smaller model comes alot less power/energy consumption as well. What would have been more of a valid point would be to compare how much the slim is smaller and then compare it to how much less energy the slim uses. If the percentage of the systems volume matches that of the power consumption then we're ok as PS3 owners. I think if they went into a better analysis then it would have proven to be better for the PS3 but then that would be giving credit towards it so that's out of the question.

Sorry if this doesn't make any sense.

Maybe I am lucky, but I have a first gen ps2 phat, slim, and a first gen ps3 that have never had any problems.  On the other hand, my original Xbox had to be replaced twice.  I don't need to go into detail over the 360 hardware flaws.

It looks like the first batch of anti PS3 Slim articles are beginning to roll out in time for the US launch, some memorable/laughable quotes:

Did you ever install Linux on your current PS3 to enjoy some awesome retro gaming goodness? Don’t plan on Linux taking control of your PS3 Slim then. Sony has removed the feature that allows you to install your own operating system. This is not a huge deal because it will not affect the majority of mainstream users and there will most likely be a few hacks that will take care of this eventually, but this is a great example of Sony taking away features on new products rather than adding them.

One of the biggest problems you’ll encounter with the PS3 Slim will be overheating, no doubt about it. The PS2 Slim overheated and so will this next generation. Smaller space equals less cooling fans and smaller heat sinks. Prepare to put this baby on an ice block.

Lol at the ice block comment.

I'm expecting quite a few more of these in the upcoming weeks.

Why must you get so defensive? The first paragraph is completely valid. Like it or lump it, every word of it is true and relevant. He points out that it is not a big deal (to most people at least) but it is true, Sony often removes a feature with a hardware refresh. Examples being this and backwards compatability.
The ice quote I'll admit is just funny.
Also funny is the thread title :P

Yeah, the first paragraph IS very valid. Look at the history of the PS3s. Each time a new revision came out, it only removed features.

First they took out the Emotion Engine, then the flash card slots. Then they took out two of the USB ports and the PS2 emulator. Now they're taking out the alternate OS option.

I understand the reasons, and I'm not complaining about them (although, when I buy a PS3, I'd like it to be one of the earliest models so I can get the Emotion Engine, the flash readers, and the four USB ports). But anybody that wants to complain about those features being removed... they have a VERY good reason to complain.
