I dont really care, i mean shovelware doesnt sell well on the Wii anyway.

Sarcasm, right?

I can't tell it either....

Not at all ,  first check definition of shovelware then look at the list of best selling Wii games. There are none in the top 20

Carnival Games is actually a pretty decent family game so i wouldnt count it as shovelware, not for everyone.

Some people need to stop seeing light family games "casual" as you think as shovelware.

From what I heard it's pretty bad. Collection of cheaply made mini games. However that's by far not the only shovelware game that sold good on the Wii. Anything above 400k is far too much for such kind of games.

There are millions of people in the world who would argue that games like Grand Theft Auto shouldn't have seen the sales that it did ...

These games sell as well as they do because they appeal to gamers who have different values than you have, and in many cases they're one of the only games that appeal to these gamers in a genre that are well developed, based on a well known IP, and have a decent amount of marketing behind them.

If you think shovelware is unique to the Wii then you're simply to young to remember that shovelware has ALWAYS been part of the videogame landscape. Same goes for books and movies. In the Atari 2600 days, there weren't any magazines to provide reviews, so you went on box art and word of mouth. In the NES days, magazines appeared, but you had very limited choices for quality reviews, and still relied many on word of mouth and the reputations of the developer and publisher. By the time the 16-bit wars rolled around, there were a huge number of gaming magazines. However, even with the Internet, shovelware has existed because many consumers fail to inform themselves before they make a purchasing decision. When a parent or grandparent wants to buy a game for their young child (or grandchild), they can often times be easily swayed by the boxart or a low price, or a popular IP (such as Dora or Mickey). The PS1 was notorious for shovelware because it was the first platform where games could be made extremely cheaply, as opposed to the expensive cartridges of previous consoles. To say that the Wii caused shovelware is both ignorant and naive.

Hardware is only a means to enjoy great games!

This doesn't even fall under shovelware. IGN rated it as good and gave it a 7.5.

Was the OP just trying to be funny and catch all those people bashing a game as shovelware without actually trying a game and doing research???

or did the OP fail to research and just was able to get others to follow?

Not saying shovelware isn't a problem on the wii, but...  at least pick real examples. Just because a game isn't targetted at you doesn't make it shovelware.

I find it hilarious that the people on this thread "know" what is best for the industry.

Explain how there being less hardcore games is a bad thing?
I am quite confident that Petz is better than gears of halo 3: guns of the patriots.

You know why? because these games are actually fun...

AND DO NOT QUOTE REVIEW SCORES SO HELP ME GOD!

There is a reason those games ranked so low, it is because there are tons of hardcore game reviewers who will give games a bad score for not being what they like. IMHO there are some bad shovelware games on the wii, like anything made by BOLD and IDG games.

But it doesn't really compare with the crappy shovelware on the PS3 and 360. terminator salvation and timeshift for example.

DONT GIVE ME THE WHOLE THOSE GAMES ARE BETTER THAN PETZ bulshit.

You don't know that because you worship metacritic and you haven't played it.
Nothing you say will change our minds.

There are multiple issues here.

There are games targeted toward other (non-core) audiences, which often core gamers despise and can get lower scores because they are not as graphically intense as what is found on other consoles. But these are not shovelware.

Then there are the poorly made cash ins, some of which are targeted to newer gamers and some to core gamers. They may be of any genre. But they share the characteristic of being poorly made on most if not all levels. This is what I think of as shovelware. (This is different than a broken game which was an attempt at doing something good that failed).

It is generally games released by companies like Conspiracy -- which brought to the North American Wii bad PAL PS2 titles. They get poor scores and mediocre sales, but probably turn a profit because there are so many of them. (Other companies which seem to have large shovelware portfolios are Bold, Zoo, and Destineer, although the latter does occasionally produce/release something with greater value).

The Wii is the obvious choice this generation for this because of its lower barrier to market entry and its numbers of new consumers. But I think this may be fading because there are fewer new titles seeming to come from the shovelware factories (WBGs Game Party 3 notwithstanding).

Mike from Morgantown

Game Party 1 -- Fun. Game Party 2 -- Shovelware. Game Party 3 -- OMGY?

Carnival Games -- Fun. CG: MiniGolf -- Semi-Shovelware. Birthday Bash -- Commercial made me feel ashamed to own a Wii.

7,5... O_O

i don't know man sometimes i wonder about IGN . . .

No sometimes I wonder about people.  It makes you sound ignorant for not being more tolerant.  If you relate this to movies, did you like chick flicks (say Benjamin Button for example)?  I hate chick flicks, and I disliked almost everyone ever made, does that change the fact that I thought The Curious Case of Benjamin Button was a great movie, but I wouldn't choose to watch it ever on my own.

The same thing applies to games, if you judge games based on target democraphic, you shouldn't even be complaining.

Also, have you ever played one of these games? (btw, you don't need to answer I alread know)

So responding to one of your own posts, is that the same as talking to yourself?  Last time I checked people that talk to themselves are generally considered insane, IMO.

I guess because IGN gave it a good score it means its not shovelware.

Shovelware is a derogatory computer jargon term that refers to software noted more for the quantity of what is included than for the quality or usefulness. The term is also used to refer to software that is ported from one computer platform or storage medium to another with little thought given to adapting it for use on the destination platform or medium, resulting in poor quality.

Most people including regular, casual, hardcore gamers, and reviewers consider the quality of the software, in this case "Imagine! Babyz Party" very poor and the series itself, "imagine" is very large quantity wise therefore it would be considered shovelware.

So yes as a matter of fact I did do my research. Imagine! Babyz Party = Shovelware
