damage its certainly better than other racers.
but seriously don't expect anything close to almost-real scratches if ever added it will be like FPS gun shoots.

I never really thought of online play. I Suppose it would be important. Hopefully PD will take care of it.
If you really want to taste realism PC simbin racers is the way to go however they are beyond brutal. Most people here whom play Forza or Gran Turismo games would not last more than 10 minutes with a simbim PC game.
Forza and Gran Turismo have an arcadey feel to them so more people play them. Rest assured if Gran Turismo was has simbim physics it would sell about 1 million copies max so that is why it will never happen. Exterior game is nothing but retarded as it does nothing for the game and these HD consoles do not have the capabilities for proper damage modelling. What is important is mechanical damage and Gran Turismo 5 has it such as after a couple crashes the Subaru did not go past 4th gear.
Want to see a car smashed up because something wrong with you? Play Burnout.

I also recommend MotorStorm , has some nice damage in it.

1. GT5 looks absolutely fantastic.
2. If it's not having proper damage in the 170 full model 'damageable' cars, then it's really pissing me off. A game as good looking as GT5 aiming for the super realism should be realistic in physics and damage as well.
3. Polyphony Digital irritates me a lot by being so vague about the features in the game - the damage in particular. I can't believe it's still so uncertain so close to release whether damage will be real or cosmetic . And will the cosmetic damage only be partial? Because everything on the car should be possible to break - not just doors, the hood and bumpers (like this article says about the GC demo, which worries me) but tires, paint, lights, decals, logos, glass and every plate surface on the car should be able to get damaged. Not necessarily on a mechanic and functional level, that's too much to ask - on a functional level I only ask for basic damage, not something super advanced - but it looks stupid if it's only partial cosmetic damage like in the otherwise incredible looking demo at Gamescom.
4. I'm not bashing in any way. But damage is extremely important. If this game really delivers on that front then it deserves all the praise. Even if there's damage models only for 170 cars it's still perfectly satisfying - as long as those 170 cars have proper damage.
| CGI-Quality said: Well, it's a DRIVING sim. That means it's simulates driving, crashes are a bonus. This IS the most known driving sim series there is, and it will be the first time it has damage. What's more annoying is people complaining about it. |
The absolutely best way to take a corner in Gran Turismo 4 (that I've found) is to come in way to fast, aim for the side of a car in front of you, bounce off it and out the corner at a very high speed. It's a high risk manuevre, since if you miss the car in front you'll loose a lot of time. But it's not actually what I expected of a DRIVING simulator.

My point would be that you're calling it a driving simulator, and that crashing cars is a 'bonus'. But without damage to cars and proper car to car pysics it's really lacking something. So when you add deformable cars that does not appear to do anything to how you drive, the reckless curves and crashing other cars still feel as unrealistic and damage the enjoyment of playing the game. Thus people are annoyed that a game as ambitious as Gran Turismo has points that feel... unpolished.

It's a problem which Gran Turismo has and has yet to be fixed. When I played prologue at a freinds house online was just terrible with people using the bumper car physics to stay on the track. If mechanical damage is incorporated into all cars like in the GT5 demo at Gamescom then it's a huge problem fixed.

So kinda like a Flight Sim, and your plane goes in a downward spiral to the ground, bounces off the ground, and goes back into the air and flies away as if nothing happened?
Would it still be a flight sim... nope
There are tons of racing games on the market, what set GT apart from the rest was the Sim part of the game.

dude..
were not saying it's not going to be a sim, but to market yourself as a sim all these years and not have crashing, or other problems during racing that effects your driving, well come on, think about it.
Put the option in game, and give yourself the option to turn it off, help everyone that wants what they want out of a Sim Racer.
