As for blurays, mom wants to rent Pans labrynth tonight. |
Seriously don't do it! The 60GB chews through mega power, its FAR LESS reliable and it has no warranty. Slim, always slim... a 2nd PS2 would be a better bet, the power savings alone will pay for one.
Btw, just one question: What systems do the majority of your friends have who play online?

The slim is 250w, the new phats are 280w. I think that the difference there is negligable. I'd say go with a new phat over a 60gb or a slim. The new 80gb phat is proven reliable, and the slim isn't. There is almost no power difference. The phats, also, are soon to be rare. The 280w 80gbs are ultra quiet, and pretty cool to boot.
The only real consideration I'd give to the slim is that IBM says the cell inside it might have a slight performance improvement, and we're not sure if he is referring to the clock speed or not. That said, really, is the cell the bottleneck here?
On the GPU:
"Earlier consoles carried the RSX GPU developed jointly by Nvidia and Sony. Peddie said that the graphics core in the PS3 Slim has to be identical or similar to the RSX GPUs, otherwise existing games for the PS3 won't run on the new console."
That's my opinion. I don't think the phat has much improvement room left after the new 80gb models. However, I can guarntee that in 1 year(probably much less time), there will be a new model numbered slim that will make the launch models obsolete.
