You've never driven a car you've hated? Then you're in luck...

Edit; I was also very surprised to see that you in no way tried to argue whether hating on other consoles is silly.

There's no hate for other consoles, just people saying they have no interest, Wii is the only one that is hated.

I don't hate inanimate things, why would I, its silly

How do you define hate then?  Because I see people disliking other consoles and every post they have trying to downplay it, would you not call that hate?

Are you for real? I'm amazed you'd think that if you have an internet connection.
No, people dislike Sony and MS, and they say that they aren't interested in the PS3 and 360, but I don't see the hate that is there for the Wii, like people feeling its destroying gaming, or that they hate the new gamers that Wii is bringing in

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

I """hate""" Nintendo for introducing motion controll.. that's all.
Now everyone is trying to develop a motion controller and I'm scared to be forced to do some movement when I just want to relax on my sofa or bed while playing.

I owned 2 Wii, every Christmas I get one and then sell it right after.. funny for a day, no more.

I can understand not liking a video-game system or company, but for one to actually hate them is simply beyond me. There are far more important things in life to take seriously.

I agree with this and also your signature.

They fear the return of arcade gaming/gamers.

They want to keep their story books and fairy tales.

In your opinion, yes. I've owned every single Nintendo console but never their handhelds, I just don't like handhelds at all (I owned an Atari Lynx for a while but I sold it after a year or so) so I don't think the DS is for everyone, much like any other product.

If nintendo makes new IP's and more mature rated games I would respect them. For now they choose to comfort people with what they know (Mario, Zelda, Metroid). If they showed creativity as the did for their first three consoles I would not hate them.

How does "mature rated" equal respectable? You've obviously not heard of how much crap is M-rated.

And the "new IP" argument was debunked by other developers trying new IPs and still getting bashed.

It comes from a nationalist mentality. Essentially people think they have to hate everything that is not what they have. These people will dig up every possible reason they can, and just continue to hate for the purpose of hating.

On another point, I don't buy this "hardcore" bs. How can a videogame or videogamer be "hardcore"? To me the whole thing sounds like a euphamistic debate for some sort of social problem for the so-called "hardcore gamer" and a term used to arbitrarilly elevate the status of a game.

I think its fair to say that this mentality comes from a combination of marketing and press. The types of products where you see this user base rivalry invariably have at least one of the competitors constantly trying to sell their product as a lifestyle, and whenever the media talks about the industry will boil it down to being a war (console war, cola war, etc). When I think of my childhood and how many times I heard or spoke vial words about someone based on their prefrence in soft drink, I can't help but feel the haters of consoles are pretty tame. (never mind car brands or the worst of the worst - sports teams)

As for the term "hardcore" it was a marketing term that has been adopted by those who would rather not be called "video game nerds" (or worse). The term has since been beaten to death because those who want to be called it (or play games labelled as it) could not possibly create a more realistic term without deflating their own egos.

Great post, sir.

I'm a hardcore gamer, which means I'm a game nerd. I admit it.
