Let me go a little more in depth here.
Leo-J, the speed of the PS3's XMB...can't get any faster as far as I can tell.
Loading speeds can and are increased by upgrading hard-drives.
Sony has said the the cell processor is the same on paper speed in both of these consoles.
The NEW phat 80gbs are only pulling 280w, and the slims are pulling 250w.
This thead, I assume, is based upon the ASSUMPTION of slim entheusiasts that the slim will be cooler, and thus cause the cell to play better after if has been on a while, and thus is "slightly faster."
Fact is, the difference in "power chugging" between the 280 and 250w models is negligable.
More to the point, we don't know how the slim will handle the heat issue. The PS2 slim was actually much hotter than the PS2.
Now, while assumptions are full of fail, always, this one assumes things that probably aren't possible.
As for the older models of the PS3 phat, which consume much more enery, and cause much more heat, it's entirely plausible that the heat could cause performance issues, but that doesn't mean that a PS3 running "right" is faster. The older Ps3 is just slower than it is supposed to be, because it is obsolete.
Next, gaming. Here is an assumption that isn't quite as full of fail as the rest. You can't increase the specs on the PS3 in a new model. Not for gaming. First and foremost, the cell was never the bottleneck for this. Secondly, loading speeds for many and most games is determined by the br disc speed, or the HD read speed, and not necessarily the processing speed, which is again, not a bottleneck.
And yes, Sony has confirmed that the PS3 slim will have the exact same BR speed as the original PS3 phat.
So, if Sony upped the specs, at all, developers couldn't make their games utilize these new specs. If they did, then the huge current fanbase wouldn't be able to buy those games, they wouldn't play, or would play shittily.
Actually, to look at the PS2 slims, the first ones overheated, and the final models of the PS2 phat, actually did run games smoother than the first versions of the PS2 slim, due to said heat issue. For the 80gb ps3 phat, heat isn't an issue. Frankly.
So, WTF bro, if Sony isn't saying it, and I'd be entirely open minded to seeing a link from anyone claiming this, except in a poorly thought out blog, then why pretend it's true?
When you get your slim, your perception might think, "ZOMG it runs so good." It's fine. However, don't ever use your perception as evidence. It's an anecdote that doesn't prove anything, and that's why I'm asking for a link.
Happy?
