First the PSP was never liked, most gaming critics hated its controls and constant PS2 games from the beginning.
The Wii is actually selling better than The DS starting from the beginning and have has many casual games with long legs.
the reason the Wii gets criticized so much than the DS is the fact that while there is a big difference graphically between the PSP and The DS, it's less of an issue because it's portable, but with Sony and MS coming out with socalled HD consoles, there is that sigma than its just such an inferior piece of hardware and until Nintendo brings on the HD version, it will continue to get criticized.

Considering the people we're talking about are based in the West, and only care about Japan when it supports their biases, I think this chart is a little more indicative. The gap at the time was far from insurmountable. Or do you think there's a reason why we should seriously consider Japanese sales at the time? |
You should not be using aligned launches for this comparison. Date is very important for this discusion.

So noname cheated to "win" the argument. The PSP was never in the lead of the DS.

You also used aligned launches, which doesn't show the correct picture either. But you are correct, the DS was always in the lead over the PSP.

That wasn't deliberate. I don't even see the button to choose "align" or not. On that note, I retract my accusation against noname, because that might have been accidental as well.

You both probably clicked the "Hardware from Launch" tab. You needed the "Hardware by Date" tab right next to it. In the "Hardware by Date" tab, there is an option for "Cumulative sales".

Okay, but it won't go earlier than September 2007. How do I fix that?

It won't graph more than a two year period, so you have to move the end date earlier as well as the start date.

How come journalist don't hype games...simple, the majority of games on wii are either crap shovelware or average at best, not worth hyping at all, the few games that are worth hyping do get hyped by the media...the problem is that there just so few and there spread apart.
The question should really be, why is there a disproportion of crap games to good games?
Again the answer is simple, in general 3rd parties simply don't support the wii on the same level and quality as they do with the PS3/360/PC, so a majority of AAA games that gamers like end up on the PS3/360/PC, while the Wii simply gets the left overs, which is usually cheaper to produce shovelware from 3rd parties.
Also, the games journalist mainly hype the games that we as gamers like, the games we as core owners would visit their websites to read reviews, in essence they them selvs are targeting the audience which brings them business, and the casuals are not the ones to visit their websites since they have no interest in general.
so what would be the use of creating hype for a casual games that 1) that casual gamers wont take notice of since they don't follow these game sites and, 2) don't appeal to core gamers in general?
my answer is none, the casual games if good will sell regardless of the hype or lack their of, while core games actually benefit from the hype in regards to sales, and that's because we as core gamers go to these sites to find out info, we go to forums to post our opinions on games and such, and we start to get excited about the games coming out...the casuals do not do the same as the core, they won't go out to learn about a game before it's released, for them they'll get a game when they see it advertised on tv or at a game shop or through word of mouth, so the hype of a game would simply not have any affect on them.
