Forums - Sony - PS3 Slim and 360 Elite at same $299 price makes 360 look primitive.

@dougsdad0629

Thanks.

Someone here thought it was little ioi at first.

Talk about an insult.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Microsoft should be extremely worried that their system is the same price now as the PS3.  Now that the price is a non-factor (who actually buys the 360 arcade unit?) for each company's fully featured console, the 360 looks absolutely primitive by comparison.  The PS3 plays Blu-ray...the 360 DVD.  PS3 has built in Wi-Fi...the 360 not.  The PS3 has free online...the 360 makes you pay.  The PS3 has a slot loading disc drive...the 360 an antiquated tray.  The PS3 is reliable...the 360 not so much.  I'm sure other people can think of more examples.  The point is that MS should not be looking to match the PS3's price.  They should be looking to beat it considering what each console offers.  The Elite 360 should sell at $249 or even $199.

Notice I'm not talking about the games here.  "Good" or "bad" games are a purely subjective matter.

If I combine a microwave oven and a 360 into one package and keep the price at $300, the 360 will essentially be saving you $30-50 on a microwave. That's value. Unfortunately, not everyone gives a shit about having a microwave and a game console all in one, and that's what you don't seem to comprehend. Value only has value so long as it adds a feature the prospective buyer cares about. What you don't seem to understand is that the value of the 360 is in that final sentence you can't seem to wrap your head around, the games. Quality is subjective, but general appeal is not and appeal comes from sales.

What I'd like you to do is this. Do this exact same scenario with the Wii. Take games out of the equation (since it's all subjective) and just judge "value". You'll see even more value on the PS3's end, and yet none of that will propel it past the Wii outside of a possible initial spike over the next few weeks. Sometimes you have to understand that what people see appealing in a console cannot always be presented in a feature comparison chart. If you make all your purchases off of value charts then congrats. Most people don't.

The Wii offers a unique interface which partially justifies its price.  The PS3 and 360 have the same standard controller interface.

Which 360 version sells the most?

i heard this from the Gametrailers bonus round.

michael pachter said the average price of X360 is around $290 (he must have the number as a analyst)

based on this number, he said the main stream model is the "pro" and the rest split evenly between "arcade" and "elite" (leaning more towards the arcade model).

He's also Michael Pachter.

so? it's not like he is making a prediction or something. he has the data not everyone has the access to.

What, son, what? New York, New York!!!

I bought an arcade and upgraded myself. Even at 300 dollars, I've been able to upgrade my arcade to the same status as the elite and saved myself 20 dollars in the process.

I specifically mentioned in my original post that I was speaking of each company's FULLY FEATURED console.

Your argument is biased and flawed. It's asked to give just one correct answer. In the real world, doug's dad, people have choices.

You wanna play Madden with your friends? What's the cheapest way to play Madden 10 right now? All of your friends will be at your house this weekend. The cheapest way is the Arcade - and a copy of Madden. Have your friends bring their consoles and play. So, for $256 and change, you and your friends are playing Madden on full HD.

For a PS3 now, it's $356.

In statistics, they call your move 'cherry-picking.'

You're not understanding me.  If you choose the Arcade, great.  Your choice.  However, when you put the $299 PS3 up against the $299 360, it's not pretty.  That's all I'm saying.  Certainly some people will not be interested in either company's $299 model.

but your point is very subjective
at the end THE GAMES are what makes ppl choose a console
I love 360 and PS3 since i have both
but your thread is very absurd

The point is that the 360 has become the "expensive" console.

how so? the elite model will be $299 and the arcade version $199

Yes, but the $299 360 doesn't compare so well with what you get with a $299 PS3. Particularly when you consider paying for several years of Live Gold.

And like several people already said me included, it all comes down to the type of games they like in the end. Most normal people would't have a need for all the features that the PS3 or 360 has.

There is lots of people believe it or not who only play single player and dont even bother with the internet side of things.

That's certainly true, and there's also the matter of software line-up to consider, which is the most important thing and where personal taste comes into play.

But I don't see how, as a piece of hardware, the 360 looks at all competitive at this point.

Precisely my point.

The average consumer doesnt have a clue about the guts of a system hence why in the end it comes down to game tastes. I know people that think Word is an OS or don't even know what a HDD is.

I sure as hell did not buy a PS3 because it had blu ray. It was because it had MGS4.

@Euphoria: I do believe you're being propositioned in some way.

Elite at $299 will last about 6 months and then it will drop to $249.

I know several people that went that route, or bought a 20gb PS3 with full BC for like $275, $300.

And in the U.S., the Elites were selling good compared with the PS3s, right? Too lazy to find the stats but Patcher had said the $290 360 was the most popular - meaning the Elite and Arcade weren't.
