Forums - Nintendo - Will the wii relinquish it's weekly WW sales crown over the next few week?

With all the talk now squarely on the PS3 slim and the recent announced price cut by MS, will the wii finally, after countless weeks at the top, relinquish it's "King of Weekly WorldWide Sales" crown soon after Sept 1. If even for a week. More than a week? Forever?

This is all to do with a personal bet with a mate that wii will do the whole year at no.1.

I am no crystal ball gazer but I think it (and therefore myself) might just loose it to the "new" PS3 slim for a couple weeks at least.

I know talk of PS3 sold out at amazon and whenever else has been allover this site but.......

It's all speculation but hell, that's what half this site is about.

X360 couldn't do it before with massive price cuts. Can PS3 just do it with a "re-launch"?

My prediction (and I really hate doing this) is PS3 for a few weeks with the wii regaining ground after about a month or so.

After that I think it will be a close run thing between all three directly after Halo:ODST.

x360 should see better sales but without anything "new" apart from price it might not be enough to take it to the top before Halo. Can ODST really push HW without Master chief? Depends on who you listen to.

I think x360 next true battle is natal and beyond but that's another topic.

Wii has nothing new (HW or price) at all but just being the wii is enough for it to put up a decent fight.

So from the first full week of september to end of october I think PS3 will rule some weeks with wii second and x360 showing some strong improvement in sales due to Halo. Can Halo:ODST push x360 to the top?

Coming into november and thru december I really don't know where to even begin to speculate.

May the force be wii you.

it's a possibility, so we'll have to wait and see.

IF it did, I wouldn't be shocked, this generation has been pretty retarded thus far.

PS3 or 360 will not take the top spot even for one week.....Nintendominates

Now now, that's being arrogant, their is always a possibility, weather or not the possibility comes true is up for debate. So never say never.

i guess you are right but I mean with already a $199 360 for over a year ( i thnk i forgot when the price cut came) and still the wii every week outsells the 360 and ps3 combined...its like the double of 360 if 360 is at 110k then wii is 220k....so its hard to believe a ps3 that is more expensive will do any good....certainly ps3 will get better sales but i just don't think it will eat into wii sales as much as 360 sales cause wii is a completely different system while 360 and ps3 have alot in common...so a guy who wants a fun motion controller based system will buy the wii even if the ps3 is 50 dollars lower than it...(it is actually 50 dollars higher right now..) but a guy who wants a hd console will look at 360 and ps3 and decide that since both are 299 but ps3 has blu ray i will go for that.....

Hmmm... Good question.

The most likely time is the first week of September. Other than that, I don't think the possibility of PS3 taking the lead in weekly sales is that high. I don't think there will be a sustained boost that will push PS3 into 1st. It may very well take the number 1 spot in Others or Japan in the weeks following the Slim launch.

I think a $299 PS3 will push the PS3 to the top for a week or two then it'll slowly drop off and Wii will remain pretty much consistant throughout and regain top spot.

I don't think the reduction of price of the Elite will boost 360 sales at all, it will only reduce PS3 sales. Nor do I think anyone cares about Halo ODST except Halo fans and they already own a 360. It won't move systems.

Sales between the consoles will likely be the closest they have ever been though.

No.

For a week, quite probably, perhaps even for a month. I don't think it'll last two months, but who knows? I'm highly skeptical about any period after that, though.

the 360 will never sell more then the wii they already have the arcade version for $199 and they still can't out sell it at $50 cheaper, they will never be able to do it at $50 more. i could see the ps3 beating the wii in japan for a little while but it still won't out sale the ds.
