The PS3 crowd is mostly the crowd with the most money to put toward tech. If somebody spends the money to get a PS3 for $500 to $600, and cannot spend another $250 for a second console that has completely different features so that they can play a game from a company they claim to be a "fan" of, then they are not really "fans" of that company. They are fans of graphics and/or Sony. Anybody who makes a game exclusively with lots of graphics for the Sony system, they will like, anybody who doesn't, they will hate. The ruse that is "you will lose your Sony fanbase" is just mentioned to make the company feel like they are making bad decisions in order to get more support for Sony, even though the comment itself doesn't hold any meaning.
What is interesting is that these companies still consider such pleas and take them to heart even though they are really simply catering to Sony fans, not true fans of their own work.
