Actually, there is a very good reason. Pretty much nothing will ever get a 2.0 on Spike. I don't even have the channel. In no way can it compare to channels like TBS or USA. In today's world, a wrestling promotion's growth is capped by the television deal they're able to get.
Wrestling is all ebb and flow, anyway. Earlier this year, I thought TNA was clearly better than the WWE. Roode, Aries, Styles, Daniels, and RVD were turning in some fantastic performances. Even Bully Ray was interesting for awhile. Now, in my opinion, the WWE has again taken the lead with Cesaro, Bryan, Punk, and the most recent HHH heel storyline. The Aces & 8's storyline, however, has run its course and Bully Ray isn't able to hold anyone's attention as the top heel.
All TNA really needs is to maintain a steady direction. They've had SO many different people running the show over the years that everything kind of falls apart. It's like a football team that changes head-coach every two years, it just doesn't work. The WWE is where it is because it has had steady leadership.
If it were me, I'd try to go back to the things that made TNA stand out to begin with, rather than try to be WWE Jr. They used to have THE best tag team division, possibly in the history of televised professional wrestling. Feature that again--though, it does look they're improving that aspect, as Bad Influence is awesome. Make that a big, serious part of the show, with tag matches main eventing now and then.
They've got a good core with the Knockouts, they need to give them 2-3 matches every Impact. Go out and grab more performers. There is some fantastic talent out there. Why isn't Mia Yim signed with anyone? Bring in some of the Japanese girls, many of them would love to do a tour in the US--just look at Shimmer, which is taped in Chicago, with a roster that is basically half Joshi. The Beautiful People used to be the highest rated part of Impact, so it's obvious that female wrestlers can draw. Why not set up a partnership with Stardom or another promotion?
Finally, the X Division title used to stand right up there with the WHC in terms of importance. Make that happen again. This "trade up" gimmick makes it look secondary. Someone needs to refuse and say they'd rather have the X title.
Overall, the TNA roster is just as talented as the WWE's roster. Hogan doesn't really have much to do with the product but I wouldn't mind seeing them cut his salary and move on. He really hasn't brought very much beyond that first buzz. I think they'll be okay in the long run. I just want to see another AJ or Samoa Joe major title run.
