It didn't live up to the hype but I'm glad I ordered it. The thing about Wrestlemania is that you have to go into it not knowing what will happen and waiting for that big moment. Yeah, it tends to have a match or two that is so awesome that we can watch it over and over again but there's nothing like seeing it unfold live. Even a great match like HBK vs Bret Hart will suck if you already know who's going to win. You have to watch the story unfold. Anyway.....
Sheamus vs Bryan: 0/10 I wanted Bryan to win because he has talent and a great character that's still developing. Sheamus being a champ instantly kills his momentum. Remember Batista? It was fun watching him rise. When he was on top, it was boring. Fans will turn on him almost instantly. And why defeat Bryan so quickly?
Kane vs. Orton: 6/10 Nothing I would be surprised to see on RAW. On Wrestlemania, it was just poor. These two just don't work very well together. I was pleasently surprised to see Kane win, though. Orton vs. Ziggler or something would have been better.
Diva's Match: 6/10 Too many botches. And did Maria Menounos shit her pants? This match didn't advance anything. In fact, it didn't make any sense. Why did Beth team with Eve when she hates "Barbie Dolls"? And is Maria Menounos a big enough star to deserve to be in Wrestlemania? Did she draw any money? Any heat? Should have had more of a backstory and featured real wrestlers.
Triple H vs. Undertaker: 9.5/10 Great drama. Saved the show. I would never watch it again, though. It was awesome because it seemed like Taker had all of the odds stacked against him. There wasn't much wrestling, though. HBK vs Taker? Those were great WRESTLING matches. HHH vs. Taker? Both matches consisted of two tired men laying on the ground or one man beating the other with a blunt object. And why was HBK such a whiny bitch?
Team Teddy vs. Team Johnny: 7/10 Why the hell do they still put Khali in stuff? He's a waste of space. No moves, no talent, no stamina, no charisma. He's just a really big guy. That's it. He's always the first guy to go down and stay down. Anyway, the match was kinda fun but RAW quality. Should have been a Survior Series styled match--in fact, I wish Wrestlemania was a sample of all of the PPV's in one show. TLC, Hell in a Cell, Survivor Series, Money in the Bank--all of the signature matches in one night.
Punk vs. Jericho: 8.5/10 I was hoping that these two would put on a technical showcase on the level of Benoit vs. Angle or Bret vs. Owen. Didn't get it. I didn't buy the drama, either. Glad Punk won. I figured Jericho had it in his contract that he would win the title or something. Glad I was wrong.
Rock vs. Cena: 8.5/10 It was great seeing the Rock back in the ring but this wasn't the Rock of the old days. He couldn't do a handspring. He looked fat even though he had a ton of muscle. His stamina was shit. Too many rest holds. To much time laying on his back. He didn't take any big bumps like he used to, either. Rock used to be really hardcore. I figured it would be better for business if Cena won but I guess Rock would only come back if he was allowed to win. Kinda selfish, I think. I like Rock more than Cena but Cena should have won. Then, they should have shaken hands. I guess Vince just wanted the exposure and PPV buys that a Rock appearance would bring so he had to give The Rock what he wanted.
Cena beat HHH and HBK at Wrestlemania. Rock beat Hogan and Austin at Wrestlemania. Rock beat Cena and escaped the move that made HHH and HBK tap. He'll probably make one more appearance (and he BETTER shake Cena's hand) and we'll never see him again.
