Forums - Microsoft - Multiplayer on separate disc ?

From Destructoid.com : http://www.destructoid.com/rage-xbox-360-may-have-multiplayer-on-separate-disc-145040.phtml

"You know those jokes everybody made about Xbox 360 games needing to ship on multiple discs because Blu-ray is ten billion times better than DVDs? Well, it looks like id might finally be the one to make those jokes come true, with talk of Rage needing a second disc on the 360, a disc which may house the entire multiplayer component.

"We'll probably have two DVDs for sure, and then the question is, will multiplayer be on a separate disc or not?" muses id software boss Todd Hollenshead. "It makes no sense for a player to swap that disc in multiplayer, right? That's fail. They have to keep one disc in during multiplayer, can you just put all the multiplayer content on one DVD?"

If that's what needs to be done, that's what needs to be done. However, the fanboy flame wars are going to be hilarious if this truly comes to pass. Still, let's bypass that nonsense as I ask the sane people of the Destructoid community: Would needing a second disc for multiplayer bother you, and would it make you think twice about what platform you buy Rage for?"

I don't see the problem... you guys ?

Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.

Yah, But its microsofts problem and anyone that owns a 360, as far as they stated they won't add blu-ray probably till there next console.

You will never have such a luxury to not change discs when playing a game as good as one on the PS3 without changing discs.

I'll probably buy it on PC anyway, so no probs.

Wouldn't mind, are we that lazy we can't change a disc? If you can't get off the couch to change it then you need to question your lifestyle ....

i dont see the problem
unless ppl is lazy to get up and swap discs

I don't think it's a question about whether it's a gamebreaker, but it probably would affect people's decision of what console to get the game on. Between changing discs and not having to change discs I don't think many would go with the changing discs option if there are no other factors involved.

...

maybe sony should pay off people to develop bluray pc games maybe then microsoft will be forced to adapt bluray discs

if this game turn out to be that great then I expect xbots are too busy playing this to even care about what the others would say.

Er... well said there.

I think this could be a good opportunity to market. An idea is like have 3 different versions of the game with different prices;

1 disc - campaign = $39.99

1 disc - multiplayer = $29.99

2 disc - campaign & multiplayer = $59.99 (get both and save $10)

...I know some people just mainly play games either for single or multiplayer
