Forums - Sales - Japan/ Worldwide Up

I'd like to see Wii steady out at 40-50k a week, but it's too soon to say. It needs to stay like this for a few more weeks before you can definitely state that Sports Resort has had a long term impact on sales.

I think Resort will have a long term impact, but possibly only enough to leave Wii sales steady at 30-40k.

41k+ lead and 360 beating PS3 in Japan!

I am going to cherish this moment, because it will probably be one of the last for a good year, if not forever, that MS will be able to grab such a big lead for a week.

I think this was more proof then anything if anyone ever doubted it; that price was the major factor the PS3 struggled for so long. Now that the price is the same as the 360's (if your not counting the arcade of course) things are going to be a lot different from here on out.

Take heart - the same thing happened last year when Sony dropped their price by $100. It's mid August, Microsoft likes to grab attention close to the holidays. Sony's sales will skyrocket for a few months, and then MS will come raging back for Christmas.

didnt sony simply eliminate a SKU and keep entry price the same at $399 last year? Thats not a price cut thats adding value to the price of the system by making it an 80GB for $399.

People are underestimating big time what the sub $300 playstation 3 will do worldwide. big time.

OMG, the Wii is up in Japan, Iwata was right about WSR's long hardware legs!!!

Aren't we forgetting about a little game called MH3, the Black Wii and the HW bundles? Not to mention it was Obon this week in Japan and hence all systems were up. It was definitely not WSR on it's own, in fact I'd say it was the least responsible for this boost.

if you're talking about YOY Obon is not an issue seeing as last year it was Obon too.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

PS3's fucked.

This. They really need a price drop and a hardware revision. Hopefully they will announce something at Gamescom.

Are you retarded? Do you really think Sony will announce a price cut any time soon when they're bleeding money?

@johnsobas: Doesn't matter really, because he was attributing the boost to WSR only, when there's a number of other causes, Obon included which helped the Wii stay up.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Fullfilled Prophecies

MH3 and Black Wii caused a huge sales increase two weeks ago, but last week, the effect started to go away as quickly as it came.

Just look at the graphs. I totally expected 20k sales again, as it was pre-MH3.

That's impossible and irrational. How would a sales spike like that go away totally in 1 week? Simply take a look at DQIX and the DS. I hope you were being sarcastic.

And you also don't seem to realize that there was a Holiday in Japan were consoles have historically gone up.

Edit: You can check in that graph you linked to me, if you make it start 1 week earlier,  that the Wii jumped from 37k to 52k without any big releases during Obon last year.

In fact the Wii saw a smaller jump this year compared to last during Obon. It was obviously not WSR fault, but the Obon boost. I'm sure that by next week Wii will be below 40k, and the week after it will be below 30k.

I would not expect 360 to outsell PS3 again for a while.
