I know right?
Makes me wonder why anyone would have bought a Wii and/or 360 with their non sensitive buttons.

I'm not trying to make it into a console war thing. I just think that whining about the PS3 having the same kind of buttons as the other consoles and making it seem as though that is a negative is ridiculous.
No touch sensitive buttons and plastic a bit closer to that of the 360 and they shaved $100 off the price and people still whine.
It is ridiculous. Plain and simple.
You play what's inside the console, not what's outside.

There is no question that there has been a lot of growth this generation, but by the end of this year 70% as many consoles will have been sold this generation as compared to the previous generation; and most of the dedicated gamers who are the most likely to spend more than the "mass market" price will own one or more consoles. What this means is that most of the remaining sales this generation will come from traditional late adopters, new gamers, and from multi-console owners. Now, Sony doesn't have much to really attract attention from any of these market segments because late-adopters may not have the set-up to support the PS3, new gamers have different values than the dedicated group of conventional gamers the PS3 currently targets, and the similarity between the library and features of the PS3 and XBox 360 hurt multi-console sales potential; and (on top of that) late adopters, new gamers, and multi-console owners are potentially more price sensitive because they don't value the system to the extent that a traditional early adopter would.
This isn't to say that the PS3 will not benefit from the price reduction, it most certainly will, but the benefit will mostly come from attracting people away from buying an XBox 360 rather than attracting people who have no intention of buying a console anyways.
To put it another way, if you look at the sales of the systems from January to March of 2010 you will certainly see the PS3 taking a bigger share of the market but it will probably not be the drastic shift as expected by some people.
Just saw the unboxing at IGN, I just might have to pick up a PS3 finally. I wonder if the older model will be even cheaper later if stores are trying to clear out stock. You still only get composite cables, meaning that you still have to buy separate cables to get HD. That sucks.

This is my problem with gamers these days. What the HELL does shine and touch sensitive buttons have to do with gaming. Despite SONYs notion that the PS3 is an entertainment device meant to wow you with its uber BR functionality and its dazzling good looks. Its crap. Total crap. I've never 'liked' the look of a console. Why the hell should I? Its the GAMES that matter, touch sensitivity is meaningless. The fact is with 33% reduction in energy usage (huge plus), a smaller physical footprint (this also matters), and $100 less it still plays the best games out there.
Making a smaller PS3 is about SONYs bottom line. SONY sells PS3s at a loss, even if they packed the new innards in the old case it would still cost more than the new PS3 Slim to sell. They are still taking a loss per PS3 Slim, but its less and that means alot.

Why do you need two ? This is fetishism
Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.
