Do you think this game could possibly threaten Forza 3 now that it has real car damage?
I believe it's a Forza-killer.

| Oniichan said: Here is an update for you. Damage is not on all models. Only some models have damage and thats straight from Kazunori's lips. Here is part of the article. All kidding aside, Gran Turismo 5 feels real -- that's all there is to it. As I'm not a seasoned veteran of the franchise, I can't speak to the intricacies of the experience, but what I can confirm is that the game runs beautifully and the controls feel as pristine as ever. I was lucky enough to speak to Kazunori Yamauchi following my hands-on time and confirm a few bits of information that GT fans might be curious about. First: Kazunori was still unwilling to give a solid release date for Gran Turismo 5. Although, Kazunori explained, as Gran Turismo PSP is right around the corner, its upcoming PS3 counterpart shouldn't be too far away. That sounds like "sooner rather than later" to me. The next detail Kazunori touched on was regarding damage models. I can confirm that not every car in Gran Turismo 5 will sport damage models -- it will only be select sets. However, Kazunori has yet to decide on a finalized list of featured car types for damage support. Lastly, it sounds like Porsche will not make it into Gran Turismo 5. As disappointing as this was for Kazunori, Porsche signed an exclusive arrangement elsewhere and will probably not be included. It looks like Porsche fans will have to wait. That's all from Cologne. Keep your eyes peeled for more GT goodness in the near future. http://ps3.ign.com/articles/101/1015537p1.html |
This does not make sense, how the hell does damage model only apply to selected cars? Does this mean you can only race in certain cars according to whether you want a race with damage on or not? Otherwise how the hell do you race with one car that's invincible and another that has full deformation damage? This is a somewhat of a let down.

both will live and sell
Forza will have the better hardcore bigger user base + better entry price to attract casuals
while
GT will have the brand recognition
Time to Work !

I do agree it's a let down. Specially because the damage is nothing that special. IIRC one of the reasons why GT never got damage was because it couldn't be done to PD standards. Yet now that we have it it's not very different from Forza or any other console game.

Lol, Forza was out to try and kill Gran Turismo, this confirms it's failure.
Racing Sim fans knew this would happen all along, the only people who believed Forza had a chance were casual racers, and people who Microsoft, Turn 10 and Selnor brainwashed.
i love the fact that there is NO DEFORMATION in GT5. those guys beat the crap out of those cars bumpers are flying, doors are opened by single bump(even Grid's deformation was more realistic) and yet there's no singly scratch or deformation on those cars, those bumpers and doors looks like new after accident they can't even fall off the car - it's hilarious.
if this is how PD handles deformation? in Forza 3 when you will drive into sand you can see dirt on the car and this.....it's just funny.
stunning video simply stunning looks amazing 1000 cars with real ps eye motion tracking.
i think damage might be on rally racing esque cars which is good enough for me.
theres so much content on tis game i dont know where to start.
if gt5 makes it out this year it would be impossible for me to buy froza 3
...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...
PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

Man you really must be blind. Take a look at the video again. You can clearly see dents and scratches along the sides of the car. 1 obvious spot is a dent above the right rear wheel. Also there appears to be some tyre deformation. Watch what happens when the car stops and accelerates off again. You can see the rear wheel flex.
@ mibuokami - Its very easy to understand how the damage system will work. From what that video shows is damage only affects rally cars hence rally races will have damage and possibly nascar (cause whats nascar without massive wrecks haha). The video is a demo remember. Its just showing off parts of the game in arcade mode. Its probably not even on pro physics but on standard.
@Oniichan Fair enough but I still think this is a dissapointment, I really was expecting damage for all vehicle...
